This book is amazing! It's a nicely bound hardcover book with high quality glossy paper. There is more information here than I can digest in a lifetime. The first section goes into the chemistry of oils which is way over my head but that's okay. Then there is a lot of info about each essential oil; the chemical compounds, how to use it, what to use it for, as well as what part of the plant is used, how it is made, botanical name, and how is has been used historically.. I also appreciate that it lists the scientifically documented info for each oil as well. It is organized well and very, very easy to use. I enjoy the color photos/pics of each plant too. There's a section for ailments, a section for info about each oil, many blends (they match with doTerra oils) and diagrams of the body that pertain to that particular oil. Although I don't uses doTerra oils, I wouldn't trade this book for anything! It was obviously well thought out, and a very comprehensive guide to essential oils.

Great Book
Excellent publication on the use of natural essential oils and also very informative as to the history of their, how they're harvested and extracted and why they work. The book relates to formulas especially harvested and extracted by Doterra but would be useful to anyone looking to use essential oils. The only difference is that with Doterra's CPTG quality control testing, the use of their oils as listed in the Modern Essentials book may be more extensive than the use of oils made by other companies so one wouldn't necessarily want to rely on this information for any oil just because it comes from the same plant as to the specifics of it's use. For example some of Doterra's oils may be able to be ingested internally whereby even a organic store purchased oil from another company may not be. Nevertheless, that said, great book! Let's one learn how to generally get started using the oils to enhance their health and deal with specific problems.

Great Resource for Eos.
Even though I am a Wellness Advocate for doTerra, it's really not problem that Modern Essentials removed the doTerra names. The generic names they use make it easier for people who use other brands to use this book, and I'm sure the makers of this book want everyone to be able to use it. The names used, like Metabolic Blend, easily correspond to doTerra blends, which have the type of blend on the bottle by the product name( Slim and Sassy, Metabolic Blend. Some reviewers have mentioned that the book has some changes in the recipes of the blend shown and doTerra's, but most of it is the same; the oils that are different are oils that have the same properties. If there are any concerns about the differences you can go to the doTerra website, or the site of the brand you use.I love the detail and colors in the book. The explanations and graphs in the beginning are really nice, though very specific and some sound a lot like a chemistry or A&P book.

Good reference
Good book. I spend a lot of time pouring through this book for family and pet home remedies and appropriate dilution for kids. It also provides a lot of information on how oils work with the body and massage techniques including hand, foot, and ear pressure points. The blends are doTERRA centric which is not a problem for me since I use doTERRA oils. It provides information on each oil used in the blends, so it can still be useful for non-doTERRA oil users. For those who are concerned that generic blend names are used instead of the doTERRA blend names...this is due to new regulatory requirements. This is quoted text from neweverythingessential.me site..."Many will notice some significant changes in the website. These have become necessary because of certain regulatory requirements. We apologize that products must be described in "generic" ways and other changes and hope that users will understand."

For me it is a must-have for using my oils
This is a great resource to look up how to use your essential oils. It is divided into secions on The Science and Application of Essential Oils that really helps you understand how to use oils. The section on Single Essential Oils helps you know about anything you'd want to know about each oil, followed by a section on oil blends - the doTERRA blends listed by their generic names, and Wellness Supplements too. The Personal Usage Guide section lets you look up various conditions and it shows which oils will help and how you would utilize it, along with references to studies done that show the effectiveness of certain oil treatments. This section is my favorite. Then there are the Appendix, References and Index, with some useful charts and of course tools to help you find what you need.

A must-have book!
This book is a must! I use it all the time, and the way it is set up makes it so easy to research what you are looking for. Whether you are looking for information on individual oils, blends, or ailments, you’ll find what you need. It can be overwhelming the amount of info in this book, but that is only because as you look, you will find yourself thinking of other ways to use the oils. The book even references what level of scent the oils are for blending your own perfumes. Would highly recommend this book to anyone interested in essential oils, including beginners like me!

An essential oil bible for beginners!
I got this to help me understand each of the oils I have and it does a pretty good job of covering the bases. You can tell it was written with a certain company in mind, but the pages at the back for notes are very handy to make note of what certain blends are called in the brand you buy! I wish this had more oils in it, but this is a great reference for those just getting into essential oils.

I like the way this book is organized
I ordered Modern Essentials Sixth Edition after having browsed through the prior edition which I had borrowed for a couple of days. I like the way this book is organized. It uses icon coding and color coding to provide a lot consolidated useful information without making the reader feel they are looking at crowded material. The information is presented from the perspective of each essential oil and its uses and also from the perspective of conditions for which one might seek treatment. Modern Essentials also contains discussion and instructions on the various ways of administering essential oils; topically, aromatically, and internally. It is a great resource!

It's a good book and has a lot of good information in it, but I thought it referenced doTERRA which it doesn't, otherwise it would have gotten 5 stars.
