Draper 78775 Flameless Gas Torch, Blue/Dark Brown

First one delivered did not work, it leaked the cold gas all over me,and so not amused I contacted Amazon, they sent another very quickly..It does seem to be quite common amongst reviews for this unit to be faulty, however I needed a flameless torch so obtained another. I must say regardless of other untoward comments in the reviews this little torch is worth its weight in gold, well it was to me, it easily contracts the heat strip around the wire and seals it to the connector without problem, did about fifteen or so and all in situ on a wiring loom, it never faltered, easy controlled and easily directed heat source, less likely to burn the material or oneself for that matter as the heat source can be easily seen, just don't use it in heavy sunlight, because as with any other heating apparatus the flame will be obscured by the sun.

The device arrived in a nicely presented retail packet and is ideal for a range of jobs from auto electrics to radio controlled model making. Because of its compact size, just over 11 CM long, it can easily reach confined areas that a standard, mains operated heat gun, is unable to reach. The unit is easy to charge with gas that costs around £2.50 for a 300 ML tin and is typically used for the refilling of cigarette lighters and available from a local newsagent or petrol station. I would estimate that the torch can be refilled around 50 times from one tin so is very economic. I've tried the torch out on various sizes of heat shrink tubing and it works perfectly and the heat output is very high with the variable heat switch set to full. The heat can also be reduced for intricate work and my conclusion is that this compact flameless gas torch represents excellent value for money and is very useful for a wide range of jobs.The item was supplied directly from Amazon with fast shipping.

This is really poor quality. I've only used it a handful of times and now gas leaks from the clear section in the middle of the unit which renders it useless! Also as others have said, the heat output on this thing is so poor that you will find yourself using other methods instead of this piece of rubbish.Don't waste your money on this.. spend a little more and get a decent product - it really is that bad!

Nice size for crafting and quality manufacturing. However it’s really hard to fill with butane gas as the normal nozzle, nor any of the fittings, seem to fit perfectly. I can get enough in to run the torch for 2 minutes use but it takes me 10 minutes to fill that amount of butane. Frustrating and annoying. I’ve had several male family members trying and it just leaves them scratching their heads. If not for this problem it would be a five star rating.

This is a slightly specialised item. It is very good for what I needed - shrinking heat-shrink sleeving in tight locations when wiring up a valve amplifier. I would also use it for small gauge car wiring. However it is relatively low output. Ii takes time on large diameter sleeving and is not suitable for production use.After filling from a butane lighter fuel canister, it takes a long time to warm up and does not work properly at high settings until it is warm. So make sure it is fully filled before a session and fill it well before use. Care is needed to make sure it is switched off and has cooled down before fitting the cap as otherwise this can melt.

The operation was very easy and just needed filling with gas.

This really isn't what you think it'll be, quite small, low output, that low you can put your hand over it as there's no actual flame, very difficult to fill it's just like a lighter but doesn't fit any of the adaptors that come with most refill cans, basically it's not a heat gun it's a bit bigger than a lighter, don't bother

Poor build quality, unit wouldn't work on receipt, had to take it apart and found a piece of the metal gauze blocking the outlet, it is now working. I was disappointed because Draper tools are normally good quality.
