Can the can opener part come out and be cleaned

Yes. It's very easy to clean. I clean the magnet (which can get oil or tomato sauce, etc. on it) at every use. It comes away, separately, and I clean it in seconds, with the washing up, using a tooth-brush. The actual cutter also lifts off. It usually needs only a wipe with a fragment of kitchen towel. The rest of the can-opener tends not to need cleaning. If it does, I wipe off any spills with a kitchen towel. Cleaning is no problem at all.
