How long will it last with daily use before it stops efficiently sharpening my knives ?

Hi Stephen, Many thanks for your question. The life expectancy of the Smart Sharp will of course depend upon a few things. For the average home user, you shouldn't really need to sharpen your knives each day, but if you use knives for your job, they may require more sharpening. From my own personal experience, I use my main 3 knives for chopping veg/fruit/meat once or twice a day. I sharpen my knives fully around once a week with an early model of the Smart Sharp, it's now over 4 years old and it shows no sign of losing it's efficiency.

How quickly a knife dulls can also depend on the kind of surface you cut food on. To prolong the sharpness of a blade, we recommend cutting food on a wooden or plastic chopping board. Cutting on a hard surface such as a plate or stone work top can cause knives to blunt a lot quicker.

Another way of keeping your knives sharper for longer is by using stage 3 before every other use. You only need to use all 3 stages when it feels like your knife needs a full sharpen.

When you buy this product, does it come in a box?

Does it take the colour off coloured blades (Taylors)?

The knife is sharpened by grinding on the one or two millimetres at the edge.  If sharpener is used correctly the coloured part of the blade will be unaffected.

Unlikely as this knife sharpener has a 20 degree angle. Most hobby/craft blades have a much finer angle.
