Wine bottles to vases
This is a lot of fun - you can make a rather attractive vase from a wine bottle with only a little practice. The way I did it worked every time:1. Adjust the wing nuts so the glass cutter lines up where you want to cut the bottle.2. Fill the kettle and switch it on.3. If you have a workmate, gently clamp the cutter in it to hold it steady.4. Turn the bottle, pushing down and listening to the scratching sound. You need to get one clean line unbroken all the way round, and you need to do it in one go.5. Take to the sink, and turn on the cold tap so it runs gently ready for when you need it.6. Dribble boiling water from the kettle over the crack, holding the bottle sloping down so you don't scald your hand. Turn the bottle so both sides get equally hot.7. After you've poured half to two thirds of the water in the kettle, hold the bottle under the cold tap. You should see the scratched line turn into a crack.8. Run more hot water over the crack, and the bottle top will part and drop into the sink leaving a nice neat edge.7. Take off the corners with wet and dry paper, as they are sharp enough to cut you.Why only four stars? I feel this is a bit like an art student's prototype, and needs more development to be perfect. It works really well on standard wine bottles, but I was unable to adjust the cutter to cut a beautiful blue Ty Nant bottle, though I played around with it for quite a while. I'd like it to be really simple to adjust the cutter to touch the glass where you want it to with all types of bottles.

Not the best bottle cutter see comments re problems
Didn't score an easy wine bottle. Sent it back. I could see it was never going to be good.EDIT 3rd Feb 2018The supplier happily refunded my money but also sent me another bottle cutter FOC so that I could try it again. I have advised them of my comments & will repeat them here.Hi Sunny, I received my bottle cutter thank you. Here are my observations.Instructions, you refer to "cutter adjusting screw" this does not make sense because there is no adjustment. Yes, you can move the cutter head to another position but it is not an adjustment screw it is a fixing screw. The cutter was supplied with the cutter head in the absolute vertical position. In my experience you cannot get a score with it is this position as there is not enough contact with the bottle. It would be better supplied in the position where the cutter head is angled & you can then get a decent score.Your instruction video concentrates far too much on label removal. It makes no mention or demonstration of the different cutter head positions. It does not show how to adjust the cutter & makes no mention of pressure when scoring. If you score a bottle well & then use boiling water straight from the kettle & cold water from the tap it should run the score and come apart on the 2nd or 3rd application of water. You should never need to tap the bottle to get it to run & break!Your demo video made by someone else has a serious error in it. He suggests scoring the bottle twice. This is a complete no no & will result in an uneven break. Finally the bottle cutter allows the bottle to move a little too easily & could do with some rubber rollers to make it easier to hold in place.I will happily edit my previous review if I can to comment on your customer service, with which I am now very impressed but will also put my comments bout your instructions, in the hope that it may help others.I hope that my comments are of use to you.

They don't tell you how fiddly it is what with adjusting the bolts etc. they also didn't mention having to mess around with hot water to try and crack the bottles. tried it a few times with no success, I expect it will go in the shed with other stuff I never use.

Two Stars
Good idea however the cutter could be sharper as lots if pressure needed to score glass.
