A little tricky to use but (though it is early days) it seems to do the job
I often use Zinsser primers for decorating jobs and have had excellent results with Zinsser Bullseye products. This time I have used Zinsser BIN to coat some wood (dado, skirting etc) which had been previously been coated with a dark wood stain. Apparently this primer will stop that stain leaking through to the surface, although it is too early for me to comment on whether that is the case!I was surprised at how runny the primer is and found it a little difficult until I got the hang of it. I found I needed to put a small amount on the brush and paint it on carefully to avoid immediate drips. (Too much on the brush and it immediately runs off the wood and onto the floor.) After a minute or two, however, the applied primer seemed to thicken on the wood and could be spread out more easily. A little of this primer seems to go a long way. It dries very quickly and can be overcoated with more primer, if needed, about an hour later. I left it a couple of days before applying my white one-coat gloss paint. The results appear to be very good, but the real test will be whether the wood stain does not seep through (I will update this review at some point in the future).Next, I plan to use this primer on some old melamine wardrobes that I want to overpaint. I asked the manufacturer about this and they told me that Zinsser BIN will be the right primer for this, as I will not need to sand down the melamine first - the primer will stick to it and provide a suitable base for overpainting. Watch this space!

Brilliant stuff. Blocks stains, deals with wood knots. Easy to use.
Can't fault this. Was recommended by a small (trendy) paint manufacturer who specialise in wood finishes. They don't sell this but we're happy to suggest it as the very thing to deal with knotting on new wood, and to use as a primer.Have also used on water stain on a papered ceiling with good success.Seems quite liquid on the brush but goes tacky and gloopy quickly so you need to work fast. Some reviewers have complained of odour but I disagree - whilst it's not odour free, it's nowhere near as pungent as gloss or eggshell in my opinion. No nasty off for days on end. This is really versatile stuff. It goes a long way so worth the price.I've had several tins of this from the same Amazon supplier, as I'm painting a large outdoor office. Was packaged in several layers of protection and arrived intact and on time.Great!

Thank goodness I was too late to cancel this order.
I ordered this is error and tried to cancel, but it was too late. Thank goodness. This is an amazing product. I have been doing a lot of chalk paining of old furniture. This product is white and great for the first coat to stop wood "Bleed". It is also brilliant to put over chalk paint, if the wood should bleed, (that is the great thing with shellac). It is so good, I am going to order another tin. Annie Sloan tells you to get clear shellac with her chalk paints. You do not have to do that. (I ordered some clear shellac form the states, it has still to arrive 5 weeks later. :-( ). Never mind this product has exceeded my expectations. The delivery was great too. within a couple of days. It last for ages too. Well worth the money.

Brilliant stain blocker
The shellac is the key to the brilliance of this stain blocker…. Highly recommended

It was easy to apply & I used it with good ventilation ...
This paint was purchased to cover up knots in softwood panelling that had been inadequately treated when first installed. The knot resin had started to severely discolour the white gloss topcoat & it looked a right mess. Although expensive I thought this product was worth a try & so it proved. It was easy to apply & I used it with good ventilation so fumes were not a problem. The fact that it dries so quickly is a real bonus. After 8 months there is no sign of any discolouration from the knots seeping through. I will never prat about with knotting solution again - this stuff seals, primes & undercoats all in one & is worth every penny for the time saved and the excellent job it does.

Well worth every penny
This stuff is brilliant. I know it's expensive, but it is really worth every penny. I've used it to cover over varnished window frames and it's adhered and dried very quickly. It is runny, and it will also get a small film over it if you have too much in your container. I used an old tupperware dish to hold the paint and this did just fine. I recommend using a small amount each time rather than just slathering it on. It dries quick and ready for another coat in about 20 minutes, but it was a warm day when I was doing the work. I would recommend lots of open windows when doing this because it is very smelly indeed.
