Saxophone Basics Pupil's book : Andy Hampton: desertcart.co.uk: Books Review: Good beginners book - Good introduction to music and the alto saxophone. Review: Great book, well written, and easy to use - suitable for adult or younger sax student! - As an adult, it is a daunting task to learn an instrument from scratch - but Lockdown 3 (or four, I can't remember.... Groundhog Day!) is just the time to try! Armed with my cheap but great Ammoon Sax, this book covers everything very well. Reading music, understanding rhythm, and playing the notes (all introduced a couple at a time) followed by nice tunes that help you practice the new notes in a composition with others. The accompanying CD is great. I moved the tracks to my PC and can play an accompaniment on loop so that I can practice a tune as part of the band! Any CD player will do this too. In four weeks, I am about half way through the book, still learning new things every time I start a new lesson, and some of the tunes are lovely and deserve a repeat, which just shows me how far I have come with this instrument in such a short time. Great book, well written, and easy to use - suitable for adult or younger sax student!

Good book with finger chart too
Very clear and full of useful stuff, should last a while in your learning journey. Only thing is, being a bit old fashioned I would of preferred it to of came with a CD instead of the download so that’s why only the 4/5 stars as there wasn’t an option to choose

It's a tutor
Book has diagrams, clear explanations and lots of tunes. Just what I needed to learn sax. I had a book in this series when I learned clarinet and it was great so I bought this when I got the sax. It's working well! Letitia

It misses the basics
This is OK but absolutely no instruction about the basics such as holding the saxophone and how to develop a good embouchure. I'm a rusty player and needed the fingering chart. It would have been helpful to have had some help with tonguing as well.

gr8 book
this book is excellent for beginners. I am 55 and on a whim bought a sax because I have always liked the sound - I bought this book and have managed to play 'the hovis tune' in three weeks. I am amazed. It tells you all you need to know in clear fun ways so that it is not a drudge to learn - you do one page and want to continue to the next. I would recommend for anyone. There is a cd so if you are really clever you can play the sax bits to the background music - sounds really good and inspires you to learn the next bit. Also you can go back and revise and it is still fun.
