Make sure you set up the correct angles first. I put three spots of Araldite glue (two pack) on the underneath of the slate, and it hasn’t moved since. Also used it on the upright. Good luck.

Yes it will work as good as any sundial. The angle of the gnomon is only 45 degrees and needs to be set to the latitude you live in. Around 52 degrees for the UK. I stuck a bit in it to increase the angle. It needs to be set pointing NORTH. If you do all that it's accurate to around half an hour ( GMT )
