Works well with no added noise.
Works as a compressor well, it is quite subtle so dose not sustain notes much longer so may not suit everyone.Very good for professional band use.

Excellent pedal. The only bit of sound processing that I really use on my electric bass. Very high quality compression and sustain as you would expect at this price, what I enjoy most is that it really brings any ghosted notes in your lines to life. Don't make the schoolboy error that I made however and leave it plugged in between sound check and dinner as it eats 9v batteries very quickly! Get an adapter if you are going to buy this fantastic piece of kit.

Excellent
I’ve used this for many years now! Still does the job well.

This is my main effect!
Great Bass Compressor. One of the best pedal ever.Doesn't change my bass tone at all. Just the dynamic of it.It is the only effect on my pedal-board ever on.The compression dynamic display is great too.Only issue: the "on" led is too bright, but this can be easily managed :-)

Useful playing live
This works well at making volume more consistent, or can be turned right up to add distortion. I used it at the end of the signal chain mostly to level out occasionally excessive volume from the envelope filter or from slap/pop and to make volumes of normal playing more consistent. However, I mostly just used it at home for practice and didn't particularly like not hearing where I had played something too softly/hard - not ideal for practicing and building a good technique. And I found that it took the life out of slap/pop, and killed the sub bass when I EQ ahead of it for a dubby tone, and it raised unwanted fret noise, and worst of all for practicing - it made me feel a bit disconnected from the sound.....all things that I'm sure many other players could deal with, or of course the compressor settings can be dialed down but by doing that I found it probably wasn't the best way to spend £171 and take up pedal board space.I returned it as it's not needed for the majority of what I do - practicing at home and recording to Laptop (via Logic that has a compressor), but it is well built and does what it is supposed to do well. I can see that it would be especially useful for playing live so I might well end up buying this again in a couple of years if I start doing that.I saved about £70 by replacing this with a Boss RC3 looper. Not something most 'must have' bass pedal lists include (whereas most would include a compressor) but I would recommend this more for someone more focused on practice rather than playing live.

Great Bit Of Kit
Great bit of kit. I already own a Boss LMB-3 which is quite good but after reading the good reviews on this compressor I have wanted one for some months now so was really looking forward to trying it out with my rig. I ordered it on Friday and it arrived Saturday. Brilliant service, well packaged and MXR box was in perfect condition as was the pedal within. Fitted it to my pedal board and hooked it up to my gigging rig effects loop and quickly dialed it in for a real treat. It tightened the tone and lifted the sound very nicely. Reduced the more woolly unrefined sounds to leave a more even rounded tone. Plenty of adjustment for other sound tastes too. A very versatile pedal. Really happy with my purchase.

Subtle but powerful
Barely noticeable until you turn it off, at least thats the setting I like but it can also heavily compress. Handy for tone sculpting without sacrificing low end clarity. Good value
