Good build
Good build. Always wanted to build a ship with ropes etc. This not the easiest but if you want a challenge it's really good

revell bounty
The revell bounty is one of those age old beasts from the days of hand made molds and it shows. When you get your end opening box you are confronted with a painting of the hms bounty showin the blue on the upper works and the white lead paint below the waterline. The idea of the picture on the front is to give you a paint guide of how the ship should look and unfortunately this falls down here as the colours are wrong. This is an age old painting set against revells latest box design. When you open the box you are confronted with two opened bags containing rigging, sails, manual, flags and about 6 sprews. It becomes apparent looking at the parts that there is alot of flash on them due to the age so alot of prep work will be required for this one. As with the vast majority of the revell kits, the colours can be ignored, however if you are a beginner, these colours will do just fine.Once the part have been cleaned of flash and molding marks the hull halves go together very well. Usually you have to assemble the desks with the hull halves as per the manual instructions which is awkward so i ususally get away with inserting the desks after hull assembly. The bounty being the exception due to its rigid construction, you will have to do as per the manual the fore mentioned but on a lighter side the ship actually fits together really well, nearly up to par with it modern counterparts. This is comparable with airfix's 1:180 victory which in my view is a disaster to assemble. After the above named assembly i painted the uncomplted ship. I have done my research on this ship and i know that that she had a copper sheathed hull. Revell reccommend a matt white to indicate a white lead paint protection below the waterline. She was purchase in 1787 by the rn and underwent conversion after purchase. All royal navy ships had copper sheathing in 1787 with the new copper zinc nails introduced in 1786. All that remains of bounty's structure is the copper sheathing today at the wreck site. Unfortunately revell have done the wood planking below the waterline in the mold but to be honest you would not tell once you apply the copper paint. The upperworks of the hull are in the traditional wood with black strakes. To be honest revell based its original colour scheme on the endeavour from what i can see as the box cover shows with the blue. They have slightly altered this over the years but not what i would consider accurate. The research i did on this would indicated that the blue had gone out of fasion at this stage and the preferred paint scheme was plain varnished wood with black strakes and yellow detailing around the windows and catheads. I actually varnished mine to give a more realistic appearance. The masts would have been varnished also with rope wrapped around at intermittent stages although this was being replace with iron braces at this stage. The yards would also have been varnished with black tips. The bulwarks, winches etc.... would have been red with black lead paint around the cargo hatches. All in all the ship would have been painted very differently to the way revell have done this. Also missing is the netting that would have surrounded parts of the ship such as the open rails on the quarter deck which i created. The kit is alson missing the enclosure around the tiller which airfix have put in. This has to be scratch built as well removing one hatch which was basically down to poor research in my view. The lantern at the back is also missing. All things considered this model is a relic from the past but keeps up very well with todays kits with a bit of tweaking. Due to the lack of rn ship models out there it is definately worth the effort if you have the paitence. It took me 4 hours along to clean, assemble the hull. This was alongside prepping my long term build, the vasa which tells you it is not a huge task to create a reasonably accurate model of the ship. This is a great kit i must say, very happy with the result and surpasses airfix's ship outputs which is revell has the name for ships.

HMS Bounty.
Probably the worst model I've ever done. The only part I haven't had a problem with is the hull. And then there's the paint work, finished job looks nothing like the box, first two masts look ridiculous as there is actually no cut marks so size is unclear. Really gone off finishing it.

Small Kit
Historically, this kit has been around a long time. I bought it here new, however, the mfg.'s mold stamp is dated 1958! It's difficult for me to translate the given scale of any kit, (in this case 1:110), to what the actual size will be once assembled. This kit turned out to be smaller than I like, (about 13" with bowsprit), however despite quite a bit of mold flash, it turned out very nice. I'd recommend it to anyone.
