Someone had used the ID Pin number: so unable to watch programmes.
Update: Jun 10 2024: I rang Amazon again and spoke with two ladies who actually listened to me and spent a long time on the phone checking the history. Magicdiscounts have been very patient too and I am now going to get my refund. I am eternally grateful to the two ladies I spoke to - they were incredibly helpful. Old update: I am still waiting for a refund and it looks as though I will have to go to the ombudsman to claim my money back as Amazon have not responded to my letter to London, with proof of returning the item to Magicdiscounts and their agreement that they had received this. When I bought this from the seller, it was the only one he had in stock. The Recorder was excellent - until I wanted to play back the recordings I had made. Some TV Channels were fine, but others needed to have the ID PIN keyed in. Having had 2 of the same Recorder before, I automatically keyed in 0000 but this didn't work. I therefore went into the Settings and found that the previous owner had already activated the ID PIN and, of course, I had no idea what the current number was. I immediately contacted the seller and was told to try a system reset to factory settings. As the Recorder had been amended to be multi-regional, and as the factory setting was for PAL only, I could not do this without losing the multi-regional setting. Hence, I've had to return the Recorder. Fortunately, the seller now has brand new models. I've just received mine and, first and foremost, entered my own ID PIN! So please check that the ID PIN has not been activated if you are buying a display model.

Panasonic DMR-BWT850 Blu-Ray/DVD recorder/player
This product arrived very promptly (even without Amazon Prime), and I could see no damage or scratches. On plugging in leads, etc, set-up was easy. I was pleased to see several new features (some of which needed Wi-Fi, which the unit located without trouble). It has worked well so far, and I am very pleased with it. The on-screen menu is clear and devoid of fussiness. I am very pleased with this player/recorder, which replaces a similar but earlier model, which had lasted eleven years. I hope that this replacement will do at least as well.

Record Hi-Def. and transfer to recordable Blu-ray discs.
Originally had a Panasonic Blu-ray recorder that could record off the satellite feed, which stopped working. This is my second Panasonic Blu-ray recorder, that records off the Hi-Def. aerial (I still have the 1st of those, with the disc it refused to spit out, the player had been giving a bit of trouble during it's last 3 months of use. However, this didn't discourage me from replacing it with the same model. as I was very happy with the recording results and the quality of those from its predecessor. At £ 450 (thereabouts) I even think it is quite reasonably priced. My only real complaint, apart from the predecessor stopped working; but I was using it an awful lot, is the Netflix-button on the remote (which I don't use) is placed just above the the forward search button. So it is very easy to hit that when you want to hit the search button and it seems to take a long time to cancel it out. (I so far haven't been able to find a way not to lose the continuity in what you were watching, as the button once pressed, switches the machine to Netflix). But overall, it's a minor problem. This is a really useful bit of kit.

Superb.
A single box that does everything! Picture quality superb. Can record HD channels. Can transfer anything you've recorded on the hard drive to a DVD or Blu-ray disc. The remote is an absolute pleasure to use, being very well laid out, with distinctively-different buttons for different functions. MUCH clearer than other manufacturers (the worst is Virgin's remote!). Does catch up. Quiet operation, zero noise. Includes apps for YouTube and other internet services. Does Amazon Prime video (if you're subscribed), including The Grand Tour! The only slight disappointment is the channel search, which is a bit slow.

Only for those who want to record blu rays.
It 'does what it says on the tin" but is nothing like as impressive as similar previous models from panasonic. The user interface is spoiled, much clumsier than on older models and the catch up TV would be vastly better if they had included a bluetooth interface for keyboards such as the one i am using. Lastly this one only outputs via HDMI, making it much less flexible than my BTW720 which also has SCART and RCA.

Just a con
Purchased this DVD player to go with my new 4k television All was well until I purchased my first 4K DVD. Popcorn and drink ready sat down to watch my first film in UHD , disk would not play so contacted Panasonic to see if this was possibly a fault with my new machine. Think how I felt when I was told it does not play 4K DVDs only up scale to 4K from blue ray. Well be warned if you want a DVD player to play your 4K DVDs do not by this machine. It has 4K plastered over the box it comes in its just a con

Not worth buying.
Overly complicated and jumbled results. Indications are that it is a product rushed to the market without much thought for the user's convenience. Not worth anything like it's cost.

Great, versatile multi-region recorder.
Great recorder. Versatile with quick response and reliable performance. Far better than my previous, temperamental Samsung 3D device. Records to DVD and Blu-ray discs. Rips self-recorded DVDs to convert to Blu-rays, at quality of your choice. Just what I wanted!
