Good: Clearly illuminates a target in broad daylight. Clearly visible beam at night, nice tool to point out astronomical features (but see below.) The listing doesn't specify beam power; I estimate 15-20 mw.Bad: The silver grating thing is basically useless. Amusing, but this thing is powerful enough to where I wouldn't want to risk the beam from the "gypsophila effect" (whatever that is) getting in anyone's eyes. The seller includes a plastic clip to prevent accidental triggering, which is a VERY good thing, but the clip can slip off easily. It came off a couple of times while just carrying the unit around in my pants pocket, and I accidentally triggered the beam once while taking it out of my pocket. A collar with a positive lock around the button would be a big plus.Bottom line: This is an interesting and useful pointer, but it is NOT a toy for humans or pets. If my beam power estimate is correct, it could easily do permanent damage to someone's eye with only a short exposure. Be aware of people/pets in the vicinity, and when pointing to sky objects be aware of nearby aircraft. (I almost accidentally illuminated an airliner while stargazing one night, thinking it a satellite. Very low odds of illuminating the aircraft at all, much less its cockpit, but it's possible, and the FAA has proven itself remarkably quick and accurate at tracking lasers back to their source.) Sum of topic: Have fun, but be careful. Five stars, but the less-than-reliable safety collar almost cost it that fifth.

My other laser is much too weak to use for tracing rock climbing routes, my most common use of it. But this one is much much too bright. People near me squint and turn away when I'm using it, so I stopped. I unscrewed the cover and dropped a black disk in (paper works, just press fit in). Then I poked a pinhole in it. Now the intensity is much safer. I might switch to red light in the future to avoid this issue. But for now this laser does what it says.I would prefer a normal charging plug instead of having to press this usb tip into a charger. It makes it hard to charge in my car where my usb port is in the dash in a compartment. I got a 90 degree adapter to solve that issue.

Almost too brilliant. (Can’t believe I’d *EVER* write that). I was looking for a laser I could play with a pet with in a sunny living room. This laser is so bright we can play outside in a treeless area in full sunlight. My barn is about 250 feet from my house and as a test I pointed the laser at it during full sun and by gawd you could easily, EASILY, see it.

This has usb charger, would could be viewed as inconvenient, though most people have a charger box around nearby.It charges extremely quickly. The laser is extremely bright , and powerful! The light is quite thick and easy to see for long distances!!Battery life has been better than I’ve seen with others, some even more expensive pale in comparison!I was skeptical at first bc it was so inexpensive, but any doubts I had were gone within mere minutes and without doubts after my first time using it!It’s been sometime now and this all remains as true today as it was before !!!

Bright in green. Point to the sky after dark to identify which star you are looking at. Will not light a match.
