It's just a hole uncovered. Great tank, I'm not a 'fish keeper' just the two my daughter won at a fair many years ago. It's a great tank and really easy to keep..

Q: Does it come with the two filter intake screens to avoid small fish getting in the filter?

Yes but it’s worth getting some course filter material and pack out the intake screens, as shrimp will still go through it,
