Best value for MiFi/laptop 4G/LTE use on the road
Note: the new 24GB version is probably the best value right now, 2x more data for about the same cost - and lasts 2 years!!! Is there anything cheaper (just over 1 quid per month)! If you are regularly on-the-road and you need to use Internet on your laptop - rather than depend on various WiFi points, having your own LTE link is preferable. While most Cloud/FON/hotels/cafes/etc. connections do work - they are generally open/un-ecrypted and sometimes a hassle. For 2 quid (or so) a month - it is a joy to just connect directly and - 'boom' - you are on the Internet! Of course, nothing stops you to use a WiFi point instead, but if you need it - it is there. I used it first in a MiFi (EE-branded unlocked Osprey) then laptop with LTE connection in towns every time.I also used abroad (Europe) roaming at no cost with decent performance - naturally 3G+ only (not LTE). But I don't think any other UK providers provide free LTE roaming abroad. Still it saves you buying a local data SIM which may be problematic sometimes even in towns. It is particularly nice if your laptop/tablet/etc. has WWAN already installed (or WWAN option possible) - just insert the SIM and there you go. No registration required - great - and you can keep track of data left on 'My 3 Home -> Data Allowance'. It seems to update in almost real-time.If you only use it sparingly, it lasts 12 months, but if you really need to use it all in 1 month (e.g. moving house) then you can. Not particularly cheap - but still cheaper than a contract and any silly data deals are usually short-period (e.g. 100GB EE, etc.) so not really a fair comparison.

Useful abroad if you do not have access to the internet.
We use this in a Huwaei personal data hotspot device both in the UK and in France . The data card lasts one year from activation so covers all our holidays. It is only used to check emails and to look for information on the internet, we do not use it for gaming or streaming anything as this would use it up too quickly. We had a problem activating our second card as it is not used in a phone but we called 3 customer helpline who sorted ot out for us , they had to phone us back and were happy to do so even thouh our mobile phones are not with 3 . It does depend on where you are for the connection, the village we visit in France is notorious for any type of signal so sometimes we do have to go outside or move to another location that is less built up before it will connect. We like it because it does not tie you in to a rolling contract.

Changed my mind - it's worth buying
Update: 26/4/2017I've completely changed my mind on this item. As I've been in Berlin for the last 3 weeks, the SIM performance (using the E-Plus operator in Berlin) has been just fine, ranging from 1.5 MB/sec to 16 MB/sec but with an average of 2.5 MB/s. This is perfectly acceptable for on the go internet and I can definitely recommend it.Please read my original review after I got the SIM and used in in Dublin,Ireland where the performance was terrible (and I tried it in many places).Overall I'm happy with this SIM but I would caution that depending where you travel the performance may vary a lot.My Original review - 1 star:I bought two of these for my upcoming trip to Berlin. They are supposed to work in 42 countries so I thought I'd try it out in my home city, Dublin, Ireland, first.I was using it in my TP-Link 4G mifi. The best download speed I could get was 0.5 MB/s, and I tried it in lots of places. In comparison, I tested the speed of my Three (Ireland) 4G sim in my iPhone and I mostly achieved more that 20MB/s download (40 times faster!!!)This is SIM is absolutely useless - a complete waste of money and it really should have a warning that the speed is VERY slowI'll try again when I'm in Berlin in 2 week's time (and I'll update this review then), but on the results so far, I recommend you don't waste your money

Good value
My prepaid phone had a sim for voice only as the data side didn’t respond so a this data sim for 12 months works well together . Only get 5g across the river Exe . As soon as I reach Exeter it’s either LTE or 4g till I reach exmouth.

Three 3 12 gb " internet with legs " SIM card highly recommended
I don't normally write reviews but I thought this might help you decide on your purchase. I bought a 3 12g data sim last year to use when internet isn't available in countries with threes feel at home partnership for when I'm out and about. Thie sim costs £30 in the 3 shop, so it's cheaper to buy on amazon. I couldn't believe how easy it was to activate and how long 12 gb can last over the period of 12 months before it is deactivated. My sim's 12 months life , runs out at the end of May and I still have 5gb left as we speak. You can also use it as a Bluetooth hotspot so others can use it via your iPad etc. Im definitely going to buy another in May. The 12 months starts from the day you activate the sim , not the day you buy it. Highly recommended.

Awful
Look at the screenshot and check the speeds: 1mbps download and 0.21 mbps upload. Unworkable.Meanwhile their coverage checker claims for this postcode: "Yes – Excellent serviceGreat news - 4G is in your area. If your device is 4G calling compatible, you'll have excellent 4G coverage for calls, texts, and mobile internet."Based on this, if you like the idea of re-creating the experience of a 1990s dial-up modem Three might be a good choice for you. Otherwise, maybe try a company which uses a different underlying network. At least on the bright side, you probably aren't using much data - which is a good thing considering the absurdly inflated prices you have to pay for additional data once the initial block runs out.
