Q: How protected is the laptop from being bashed? Will the laptop get damaged if I put it on the floor roughly?

I've had the bag for awhile and it does offer a good amount of protection. There is a padded laptop holder in the centre of the bag that is suspended so the laptop doesnt sit on the floor of the bag. Get it, you will not be disappointed.

No. Not flat. I put an a4 black and red book in and there is not much room for anything bigger. Perfect for me. Not sure I'd want a bag that can take a3 unfolded. I have a few other laptop bags for my 17inch Lenovo that are much bigger than this bag and none of them could take a3 unfolded.
