I had high hopes for this bug zapper after reading the reviews here and I wasn't disappointed. As soon as the parcel arrived I loaded batteries and went fly hunting. After stalking a bluebottle around the house for a few minutes I managed to hit it with a quick backhand. The result was brilliant...A bang....A flash of blue light.....a smoking fly plummeting to the carpet like a downed WW1 fighter pilot. It's quite well built and seems to be fairy robust. I took out a wasp and a vase in the same shot and it's still working! ******WARNING...THIS PRODUCT MAY BE HARMFUL TO YOUR KARMA******I have spent a few afternoons stalking the house in search of more victims. I purchased this in order to get rid of the pesky flies and now I wish there were more of them to kill. The total body count is at around 40 in 3 days so far...I seriously considered leaving an open jam jar in the kitchen to attract wasps for the slaughter. ****FURTHER WARNING TO INQUISITIVE PEOPLE****DO NOT....Use this Fly Killer on pets, children, wives/husbands etc. It packs a serious punch and will leave children crying for ages. (I'm guessing here.....Honest).DO NOT....Lick the fly killer......Just don't....OK...Happy Hunting!

TORTURE DEVICE - does not actually kill.
I'm sorry but this item is rubbish - bought as we have a lot of small moths in our new house. The batteries keep falling out, but if you hold it right it still works - when it zaps the moth, it appears that the moth is dead, then a couple of mins later the poor little thing wakes up and moves off again. This also happened with a blue bottle, I thought it was dead then later on the poor thing was upside down buzzing around, unable to fly off again but not dead either.I've tried zapping it for a long time, but still doesn't kill - I feel terrible for these poor insects.THIS IS A TORTURE DEVICE!It is handy to catch and immobilise the moth/fly, but you must then kill it yourself immediately or it's just plain cruel.

Works well, but take care not to break it.
It works well enough. But it does feel fragile. (and I guess why not considering the £10 price different for its more expensive competitors). So be very careful not to drop it or smash it against surfaces. It is very silent when i use it on mosquitoes and flies. Spiders or bugs that get trapped in it, can spark a bit and sometimes they get stuck and you have to really swing it about to get them loose. It does take like 5 to 10 seconds sometimes to stun (sometimes not even kill) the bugs, especially true the bigger they get.But overall it does a good job and I'd recommend it as a cheap alternative bug zapper.

BUG ZAPPER
Although it's on the plasticky side, and the battery door has fallen off and needs to be kept in place with tape, this is an effective insect killer. We've had moth problems and this makes killing them rather more certain. We've got holes in an expensive (for us) carpet, so killing every carpet moth we see is an absolute must.Press the button on the handle and see a red LED light up, you are in killing mode. Waft the zapper over the moth, mosquito or whatever and they are toast.A word of warning, when you kill an insect there are lots of very satisfying flashes and sparks, but if you leave that going too long, there is also a fair bit of smelly smoke too.

switch problem
The button switch on mine keeps jamming the electrical switch to permanently 'On'.I have to take the handle apart to reset the switch and then it jams again. However, it works effectively against flies or gnats but as another has already said; it does not kill wasps but leaves them suffering convulsions which is obviously inhumane.

does not hurt a fly
we had one similar to this one and it was great until it broke but this one wouldn't hurt a fly. i am just back from hunting a big fly and i got it once and tried to make sure that it would be swiftly killed while on the floor and so i pressed the fly hard into the mesh, i saw the sparks and yet, the fly flew away!!others like this one have been good, however this one is not good

MUST HAVE ITEM,
Had great fun with this over the summer, I read all the reviews on how good it was, bought one and OH MY GOD, u actually do go and hunt out wasps with it, as soon as the wasp or bee touches the zapper, it really does zap the bug dead, sometimes with a sizzle and a bang, depending how u touch the bug, - no body in my house has been brave enough to touch the zapper, we are all too scared too after hearing the bang out of it while zapping bugs, - THIS ITEM WORKS, lol

Zapping flies with electric
I noticed on the product description it say's it requires 2 AA batteries. This is not the case. I received the bug zapper and found the compartment for the battery on the bottom to be much larger than to hold 2 AA batteries. I had gone out and bought a pack of AA batteries. So when finding out these were not suitable I had to figure out myself the proper size of battery. It requires 2 D batteries NOT AA's. This is misleading so if anyone plans on buying this then make sure you buy D batteries. As for the product itself it is really good. I put in the batteries and pressed the button on the side to activate it. It kills flies, moths etc soon as they touch the electric on the big zapper. Stuns them dead! Makes it much easier to get rid of those flies around the house. Would recommend to anyone planning on buying
