Tape measure with BMI Dial, Body Mass Index

Fantastic measure the tape is easy to use and does not retract until you push small button on the rear. It has a colour coded waist guide and a BMI calculator on the front side where you have to rotate a dial to match your weight with height to give you your BMI value. The measure has a hook on the end which make it easy to create a loop on the tape and perform one-handed measuring.

A good quality tape for body measurement. The BMI reference chart on the front is a little small, but functions as it should, showing you where you fall within the BMI scale. The increments on the tape itself are in CMs and Inches and are easy to read. However, unless you are a naturally bigger build/frame BMI is an entirely useless point of reference for you. The clip on the end of the tape allows you to measure yourself relatively easily (as you can operate it one handed), so this alone makes it considerably easier than trying to use a regular flexible (sewing) measure. It also has a ratchet lock on it, which kicks in automatically as you pull the tape out. Mechanically sound, it feels like it will last a good while.

This is ok, hence the 3 stars. I bought it primarily so that it's easy to take measurements myself and am not interested in the BMI functionality. It is easier than a standard tape measure (once you get used to it), but what I was really looking for was something with a solid loop. I found this one slips out of the loop quite easily, it takes a bit of getting used to so that you can take measurements with it. It doesn't come with any instructions, so I had to use another measuring tape to check which side to use (male or female). Female on the inside seems to match a standard tape measure when doing body measurements. I actually tried to return this as it wasn't what I was looking for, but they wanted to charge £3-4 for that, which I was really unhappy with especially as I bought it on Prime. Since it costs just about as much to return it as to buy it, I'm just going to make do for now. It just about does the job.

OK, so a bit of string or a normal dressmaking tape would measure my waist much more cheaply, but I hate reading the numbers that are the important bit, and this is a way to do it by just looking at the colours. Very lazy, but not as scary somehow to see me getting closer to the orange section, even though the green one still seems a long way off. Being able to slot the tape over the hook means that you can double it back over itself to get an accurate measurement if the numbers are what you really want, and this would work for any other part of the body (just ignore the colours if you're measuring anything but your waist). The great thing about the colours is that even if your eyesight isn't good enough to read the numbers, it will be good enough to see the colours (although maybe colourblind people may disagree?). Just make sure that the tape is not twisted and that you have it the "right way" (one side has the colours for men, the other for women — and, yes, the colour sections are in different places on each side as men's health risks are at different waist sizes to women's) to be able to use the colours correctly. If you're looking at the numbers only, this isn't important as it has both centimetres and inches on each side of the tape. I haven't used the BMI calculator as I didn't buy it for that purpose (I just wanted a colour-coded tape measure for waistlines), but it is simple to use as you just turn it until your height is against your weight (either in metric or imperial as it has both), then read of your BMI. The tape housing is plastic — I don't think it would stand up to a rough life where it is dropped/trodden on, but I have had mine for a few months and it's still in perfect condition.

Great measuring tape, I use it regularly with my patients. The BMI scale is an added bonus and helps establishing an accurate BMI value instantly. Both sides are metric so no confusion.

I ordered several of these for my business (I'm a Personal Trainer) one per client and used specifically for that client. They seemed to be just what I was looking for until in the middle of measuring a client the metal end flew off! Embarrassing? Absolutely both for me and for my client. Thinking this was a flook I carried on using them - out of the 11 I bought I now only have 3 left with ends on! I have subsequently gone back to the brand I have used previously. Terrible waste of money.

This tape measure is great. I don't use the bmi part because I don't go by bmi as I don't think its an accurate way of measuring health. The tape itself though its brilliant and very simple to use. Makes for an accurate measurement each time you use it and an easy way to track progress on weight gain or loss. Would highly reccomend.
