It works!
This is a very practical and convenient storage device. I formatted mine to provide two logical drives: 1Gb drive for automatic backups of my laptop and 2Gb for storing video projects. The photo shows the drive and the included cable with a (separately purchased) USB-C cable adaptor for a modern MacBook. I've used other Transcend drives before. This one feels even more robust. The indicator light clearly shows when the drive is busy and when it is safe to disconnect (previous Transcend drives had an LED which stayed light as long as the unit was powered so it wasn't always easy to see then the drive was inactive). A great product - highly recommended.

robust, just wish it came in more colours
Really good just wish they had other colours if they did I would of bought a few more so it makes it easier to know whats on the hard drives, I have bought another drive but wish I had paid a bit more for another one of these as if this was dropped on the floor there would be no worries about damaging it, the cheaper drive I bought feels like it would shatter into pieces if dropped

A good drive to have.
I have two of these drives now and also two of the 1TB drives. I find them to be fast and reliable, not sure about the shock resistant claims as I haven't ever dropped them to test it and don't intend to either.I can say I often carry the drives in backpacks that do get manhandled, bumped and knocked about and feel safe knowing they are relatively robust hard drive ( not quiet a drop test but good enough for me )I haven't had any issues with this drive and intend to purchase another one soon, the only thing I would say is to be careful with the USB 3 lead, it is a little flimsy and likely to break off in the drives port if transported connected in.

Check the formatting before you start!!
Mine is the 2TB version.I initially loaded 700GB only to find, too late, that they ship the thing with FAT32 formatting. It's easy enough to change the format to NTFS, which is probably what you really need, but for goodness sake! FAT 32 on a 2TB HDD? So..... I obviously had to do it all over again with NTFS in order to be able to copy those files bigger than 4GB. In these days of HD video recordings, a 4GB file is far from uncommon.Speed seems OK. I am only using in with a USB2 PC at the moment but it copied 700GB in about 16hrs even using 'Karens Replicator'. I am sure it would be faster if you use its own software but I do like the error report and flexible control that 'Karen' provides. Accessing a large file in normal use, I am very rarely made aware of any delay in loading it. That makes it a very practical machine although I would have preferred a captive cable to save carrying a separate one. There seems to be ample power in my USB2 ports; it works perfectly connected to just one port. I guess those people having problems have ended up with a slightly different model to mine or perhaps they should try a different USB2 port?It gets noticeably warmer than any other portable HDD I have used. I guess that the shock-proofing also acts as heat insulation. That MAY not be good for it long-term but it does come with a 3 year warranty. The adverts tell you how robust it is but the instructions are somewhat different. They tell you to handle it carefully, don't put it in a suitcase, don't get it hot, keep it in a protective box, etc. That rather defeats the point of having a rugged drive doesn't it?It vibrates in use more than any other portable HDD I have used (I have 5 others). Maybe it is spinning faster. It's not noisy, it is just a vibration you can feel.

100% so far
Have had this for a couple of months and it's been superb. Instantly recognised by every computer I've tried it with - and that includes an old XP machine which usually has trouble with modern external drives. Speed - well, I'm not an expert, but the green block seems to move across the screen pretty rapidly. No noise apart from a helpful, rather biological-sounding squeak when you plug it in. Doesn't doesn't seem to get very warm, and the rubbery protective skin manages to look good, though haven't dropped it yet, so can't speak for shock resistance. Finally, not to be taken for granted given the behaviour of some devices on the market, files get copied with unerring accuracy.

Not very Responsive
This product takes a very long time to mount. I am told there is a chkdsk facility in it but sometimes it starts to spin but then doesnt mount at all. This means you cant always access it when you want or at all. I couldnt wait to get my data off it onto an SSD drive as I was also getting a message that there was a problem with the disk and Windows Repair couldnt fix it. I eventually accessed it on a Mac High Sierra and took the data off it bit by bit and deleted as i went just in case it disconnected and went through the chkdsk again. I wouldnt buy it again, but I deal with very large batches of data like 1TB for work. Maybe its OK for personal stuff in much lower volumes, but in trying to transfer 1.05 TB off it, it stopped responding after 871 GB and disconnected. I have wasted so much time with this disk trying to get it to connect to access my data, its like a weight off my mind now I can throw it away.

Hopefully it does what it says on the box.
Brought for our son who has a medical condition casing him to drop things. He needed some extra memory and after a trawl round the internet I came upon the Transcend 2TB 2.5 inch USB 3.0 StoreJet Military Grade Shock Resistance Portable External Hard Drive. The USB 3.0 is great as it provides significant data transfer rates. If the drive is connected via a USB 2 connection then a second connection is also required. To check which USB connection you have look in the laptop/desktop sockets, if they are blue you have USB 3 otherwise its USB 2. I can't say that the shock Resistance works but it does seem rugged and the anti slip casing gives a really good grip. Storage is massive at 2GB and for the price is really excellent. My 1TB hard drive is nearly full and I will certainly be buying another of these in the future.

Simple to use works well
I use this as one of 3 back up systems. It accompanies me on around the world is rugged and so far worked perfectly. More expensive than other products but you pay for the quality. I think it is worth it.
