Begin Again [DVD] [2014]

Another excellent little feel-good film from writer/director John Carney. Keira Knightley is a revelation as Gretta, who meets down-on-his-luck producer Dan (Mark Ruffalo) after breaking up with her singer/songwriter boyfriend and sets out to record her own material with his help.Knightley and Ruffalo make a good, convincing partnership at the centre of a very well-chosen cast; the music is pleasant and the film is beautifully shot around the streets of New York. It has some minor plot clichés and improbabilities – but this is an enjoyable film about the magic of music-making, not a gritty realist drama.Ignore the negative reviews from the soulless haters on this page – I expect most have probably never made any music in their lives.The UK DVD has presents a sharp 16:9 ratio print and subtitles in English are available; there's a 20 minute “Making of” documentary and four music videos consisting of montages from the film.

After watching this film not once .but twice, before the film was off cinema I had to buy this on DVD .I instantly loved Greta's character like me she loves music and soon finds herself miles from home in New York with boyfriend Dave played by the very gorgeous Adam Levine of pop band Maroon Five . Dave soon goes off to find fame and fortune leaving Greta in NY ...One chance meeting in a bar, meeting Dan a record producer of distressed records, soon changes her path of fame and fortune .James Corden also stars as a busker and friend of Greta . and stars cee lo green as trouble gumA feel good uplifting film that if like me, you love music then this is a must see film .please see how wonderful Adam Levine is at singing Lost stars ...... a magical and beautiful song .

I am currently on a trial of Prime. I must admit when I looked through the 'free' films, I wasn't that impressed but when I saw this film, I remembered when it came out but although I love Mark Ruffalo in films, I wasn't particularly a fan of Keira Knightley so I never watched it on release.. As it was free, I decided to give it a go and I actually really enjoyed it. Keira wasn't as annoying as I sometime find her and she did sing the songs herself and had learnt to play the guitar for the part. On Prime, it gives you 'trivia' about the film and I laughed when I found out that Ronan Keating had wanted Adam Levine's part!! I'm glad Adam won out!This isn't exactly a romance although I did think it was going to go that way between Greta and Dan's characters. Her boyfriend (Levine) has been unfaithful to her and his wife was unfaithful to him. He has since left the marital home, spends a lot of time drunk and rarely sees his teenage daughter and has just lost his job. But when he sees Greta perform in a club, he decides he wants to sign her to his old label.I like films with music in. While the music in this is not my usual taste, I still found it enjoyable. I didn't really see the point of James Corden's character but then I'm not particularly a fan of his. Mark Ruffalo was great as usual. It lost a star from me because I didn't like the ending. Not wishing to give too much away, but I was surprised with the choice romantically that Dan made at the end but I was glad about Greta's decision.

I really enjoyed this film as a single man in my 50's it was a breath of fresh air to watch and i cannot get the tune out of my head, the film really does rate the 5 stars for me and the ones that are on the DVD case for once

I wasn't sure but bought this when it was reduced as a little extra something to watch when doing the ironing! It turned out to be wonderful (helps that I like Mark Ruffalo) and, even though I'm not keen on Keira Knightley, she was pretty good in this and I enjoyed her vocal performance (not the usual Hollywood star mangling a tune) so much I'm contemplating the OST. Watched it twice in one week (the second time with 21 year old daughter and boyf who both enjoyed it too!).

It is amongst my all time favourites for life. I love the way Keira Knightly sings & takes the story line as being true to her music not to corrupt it by commercialism. The whole cast has incredible effect & makes it all so "REAL"! I don't suppose this review will be passed onto the actors but I wish it could be!

I must admit that I was suspicious of this follow up to Once but I need not of worried this is a very very worthy successor with great performances from Knightly and the even more unkempt than usual Ruffalo.The film catches fire with Ruffalos entrance and continues to burn brighter and brighter until the wonderful rooftop end number.Took me ages to get the stupid smile off my face

A warm-hearted film that leaves a smile, Begin Again is about love, relationships and friendship. It's also about the clash between creativity and commercialism, but in a very soft and unforced way. 'Soft' is probably a good description of this film, and not in a bad way. It has a nice feel and though there are emotional lows portrayed, there are plenty of highs and some decent songs thrown in for good measure.Knightley's acting is great and her role reminded me of the one she played in Seeking a Friend for the End of the World. The rest of the cast is also very good, Ruffalo and Keener putting in great performances, along with James Corden. Cee Lo Green's appearances definitely raise a smile and it was also nice to see Rob Morrow make a brief appearance, being a fan of Northern Exposure.This is a 'cuddle-up and enjoy' film or one to watch when you need a lift. The issues around relationships, friendship and creativity are all dealt with using a light hand, which is perfectly suited to this movie. Very nearly a 5 star rating, it certainly is one that I'll be watching time and again.

Your classic love story gone sour. However, because of each character's love for music 🎶, they each gain a better understanding of what they want from life. Happy ending for all.

Super film, vu en anglais donc je sais pas ce que donne la trad en francais mais en anglais c'est tres bien. Bonne qualite d'images et de son.

J’ai adoré ce film et j’ai voulu l’avoir en DVD et malheureusement il ne passe pas dans la zone France. Pourquoi le proposer sur Amazon France???
