Heavy weight in all meanings of the word.
This a truly a massive and heavy thing. Well made, for instance the jaws are perfectly square. Its very smooth to open and close. With hard use each day it should last many hundreds of years. You do need a very substantially bench to fit it on thou. I fitted it to a bench designed by Paul Sellers which uses laminated 4 X 2 for the top. It was a perfect fit.I am only new to woodworking. I was planning to fit a dog system to the bench, but this thing opens so wide i am not sure its needed now, and want do that for the time being.Extremely happy with the vice.

Vice
A real beast of a vice that needs a sturdy bench to affix to. Well worth the money if you are in need of a heavy duty vice.My only niggle was that the faces of the vice were not flush when closed. Not a big problem because, for woodwork you need to add wooden faces of your own to avoid marking any wood that you have clamped in the vice, so it is easy enough to shape the wooden faces so that the vice closes to face-to-face.

Irvin record vice
Very well made & accurate front dog is actually higher than the top of the jaws, this is to allow the 2 faces & top to be lined with wood to protect the work piece & tools from damage by the cast iron jaws.

Not as good as an original Record Vice.
Sloppy action, rough, lead screw looks like it was chewed out using a wood lathe and hand cutting tool, Most likely it's made from Chinesium.Nothing like the original British made Item.Only buy if you can't source a good second hand original.

Just right for the job
This is a heavy brute of a vice, but does the job perfectly. My only criticism is that the dog sits a little proud of the top of the jaw when it's in its retracted position. The vice arrived in good time and perfect condition.

Good Build that Will Last Forever
I have to share. Mine is over forty years old and the paint has all gone. The two screw holes are for installing a pair of wooden faceplates, preferably oversized so they can be planed down level to the surface of the workbench. The quick release mechanism is still slick and easy after four decades of use by several people. I have hardly ever used the rising dog but it has been most useful on a couple of occasions. If you want a vice that can grip a piece of timber a foot thick and will last forever then look no further.

Sehr robust

Excellent wood vise
This wood vise has a prominent place attached to my work bench. With maple wood jaws attached to the metal jaws it is perfect for woodworking needs. It is high quality and the lever allowing sliding the jaws in and out without having to crank forever is a definite plus. The jaw width is great for wood projects and mounting it on your woodworking table is easy. I highly recommend this vise. It will last forever.

Impressionant
