Do the com/tty port numbers always map to the same physical port? same question if the unit is connected to a different usb port? same com/tty no?

I can only comment on a Linux system; Yes. However if you have other serial ports connected, this may change. With the 8 port I have. Ports 1-8 are always mapped to /dev/ttyUSB0-7 respectively. If I connect another single port serial. This will map as /dev/ttyUSB8. But upon reboot with both connected. The single port gets mapped to /dev/ttyUSB0, and the 8 ports to /dev/ttyUSB1-8.
