Lucky Luke Vol.11: Western Circus

A beautifully crafted story
A beautifully crafted story based around the historical travelling circuses of the wild west. Of course this being Lucky Luke you get a completely hapless vegetarian Lion to tame, a "drunk as a skunk" circus owner, a useless villian and the wonderful local tycoon Mr Zilch, also known as "DT" or "Diamond Tooth" for reasons that are somewhat obvious. As usual it is the one off side attraction story guests who make the whole book into such a wonderful read.

Original and best
A good book; much enjoyed by my 2 youngsters (aged 6 & 4). It is the work of the original authors Morris and Goscinny and that is always best. I enjoyed the references to WC Fields and Mae West but it did not detract from the enjoyment for my children as you do need to know who they are.

Good but a bit hard to read
This is a matter of personal preference but I found the text a little difficult to read. Apart from that, there is absolutely nothing wrong with good ol' Lucky Luke!

Very funny
Lucky Luke is the creation of half of the duo that are responsable for Asterix (Rene Goscinny) with a different illustrator (Morris).Set in the Wild West, it is hugely popular in continental Europe, and rivals Asterix in sales figures.Never caught on in the UK for some reason, but the stories are just as funny. and there's often a short post-script detailing teh historical context. The hero is Lucky Luke, a cowboy who's a dead-shot, rides a horse with a wicked sense of humour (Jolly Jumper), and comes up against a series of villains. In this tale, he joins a circus at risk of going out of business, and takes on the bigwig who "owns" a town and doesn't want an alternative entertainment to his annual rodeo. You get bandits, hitmen, "injuns", elephants, lions, drunks, all leading up to the final climax at the rodeo.Might sound a bit strange, but give it a try, and I promise if Asterix, Tintin and the like are your thing, you'll love this.
