Rovner 1RL 'Dark' Saxophone Ligature & Cap

Up date. This ligature has completely changed the sound on my sax. The sound can now be dark, high, lively, smooth. I love playing jazz and blues numbers with it, a lot better than with my metal ligatures. I cannot believe how good it is. I wish I had bought this ligature a lot earlier in my playing days history. I would have improved a lot faster I believe. Don't hesitate on buying this, you will not be disappointed, it is an all round great ligature.

Great ligature. My teacher noticed it and said its a great choice. Quick to fit and makes me look better until I sound better!

The sound from this is as expected, i.e. a little darker than the standard version. The only issue is the mechanism around the thumb screw doesn't always open the gap between the leather bound end bars. The leather can get stuck the the thread of the screw, so I have to give it a helping hand. Not a huge problem, but enough to dock 1 star

A really superb ligature, this is by far the best one I’ve ever bought!! As I said above, it keeps the reed firmly in place and produces a beautiful rich sound in all registers. There’s much less squeaks too which is absolutely amazing!! I now have them for my clarinet and all my saxophones, and my sound is so much better. A huge improvement in the tone so I’m absolutely delighted!! Thank you so much Amazon!!

I was a little sceptical about this lig, especially after reading a lot of negative reviews.I should have known better than to listen to the haters. This lig is brilliant. It won’t make you a genius sax player. But it will give you the legs to produce and develop a unique sound. I love it and won’t hesitate in recommending it.

Bought this ligature 18 months ago and have found it to be really excellent. A bit stiff and fiddly at first but it soon 'wears in' and softens slightly whilst still allowing the reed to be held firmly in place without sliding sideways or forwards or backwards. I'm 73 and started to teach myself to play partly as therapy for breathing problems (diaphragmatic breathing is essential for sax and VERY helpful to anyone with lung problems). The Rovner has allowed me to develop good control over the mpc and to have complete confidence in the setup and positioning of the reed.I'm not expert enough to be able to comment on how effectively it affects tone but I can say that I seem to have better control and more success when using the Rovner than when using a more traditional metal ligature. Because of my health issues, I play a Trevor James 'Alpha' alto and although the metal ligature provided with the Alpha along with its own mpc, I MUCH prefer to use the Rovner with a Yamaha 3c or 4c mpc. I happily recommend this item, especially if you're new to sax and want to feel secure when setting up reed and mpc.

Don't be mislead by the photo accompanying this item. The product I ordered (alto sax Rovner ligature) is as of the quality I expected and does the job perfectly well. But the picture accompanying the sales advert shows it with a white metal screw mechanism (which is what I wanted to match my silver-plated sax) but the sax version delivered was brass coloured, apparently to match the more popular brass-coloured sax. The white metal version shown is just for clarinets.

OK, so I know there will be a lot of people who say that this would not have made a difference to my playing, but, I really think it has, it might be a placebo effect but for me it just seems to be that little bit clearer. I can't fault the workmanship that has gone in to it, it fits perfectly and holds the reed lovely. I had been playing about a year before I bought this so I'm not a straight out beginner, I still this made a difference.
