Worth it for convenience alone
So, this little kit actually makes our little’s elf much more fun for her and definitely expands the possibilities for Ellie Elf’s daily activities. I am admittedly terrible at reading/watching/paying attention to instructions/directions, but there is a website you go to for a pdf of this product’s “how-to”, though it’s pretty self explanatory. Magnets: When you slide the tin open, the magnets tend to jump from the foam insert into the face of the tin lid, so if you aren’t looking down when you slide it open, it will be easy to not notice it happen; if your magnets are missing from your kit, check the lid right away, as they may be attached to it. The magnets aren’t great. They didn’t hold the minimal weight of Ellie, even on the refrigerator. I substituted the kit magnets with Neodymium Magnets (see photo) that I had in our craft supplies, which work amazingly. [ ⚠️ Neodymium Magnets are INCREDIBLY STRONG and can be very dangerous if inhaled, ingested,, or introduced to specific medical devices. Use of these magnets are only suggested if your elf is the absolute No Touch kind of elf and if no medical device contraindication exist.] Velcro: The adhesive on the back of the Velcro doesn’t seem conducive to strong adhesion to the elf’s hands, but I have not yet attached them to our little’s elf (Ellie is sprinkled with glitter, so the Velcro would be wasted and not stick bc of the glitter coating), so I can not say for certain. Needle, thread and seam-ripper: Perfect and convenient. The needles are pre-threaded, which is a nice time saver. If your elf isn’t red, you’ll need different thread to re-sew your elf’s feet. Even if you have never hand sewn anything before, it won’t matter; it’s super simple to close the seams back up. (Note: you only have to rip ~3 seams max. to insert the rod and the smaller magnets.) Bendy Rods: The main purpose of this kit for me were these bendy rods. Once I opened the package, I found that I could’ve used a wire cutter and a metal hanger to cut these bendy rods myself, and with probably more stability than these rods provide (though probably not nearly as smooth at the ends without filing/sanding of some sort.) the arm rods were a little too short for our little’s elf and the leg rods were a little too long, but Ellie is a pink elf, as is a requirement in our home, so for the actual elf on the shelf red elf, this may not be the case at all. I found it helpful to create loops at the ends of the leg rods (see photo) and wish I had thought of it for the arm rods, too, though it would have made the already too-short-rods even shorter, so it likely would not have worked in the arms the way it didnin the legs. Conclusion: Though I very easily could have made the same adjustments and additions to our elf from things we already had around the house, for a busy person, having the rods precut, the needles pre-threaded and the majority of the supplies in one prepared tin is convenient and worth the purchase price. 👍🏼

EXACTLY WHAT I NEEDED
This Elf on the Shelf doctor kit was exactly what I wanted to make our little elf posable. This is my 1st year doing this and I was surprised to find out that the arms and legs were not bendable at all and I could not find one that was. I used this kit and read the instructions on their website and it was very easy to follow and use. The needles are pre-threaded for you but you do need to tie a knot at the end of the thread to sew it the way I did. I used the wires for the arms and legs and did have to cut it shorter for both but regular scissors worked easily for that. I also added the magnets into the hands and feet so they stick together and he can hang from paper. The fabric in the feet is too thick for mine to hang from his feet but they will stick together when he's posed. Be sure to test your magnets to make sure you're using 2 sides that will stick together when you add them. I added an extra single stitch at the wrist to prevent the magnets from sliding into the arms and that seems to have worked well. They also include 3 sets of white circular velcro to put on the hands if you want and there's adhesive on those so you don't have to sew if you don't want to. I cannot speak to that since I didn't add those. The magnets would not have worked if I did. My elf had seems at the elbows and knees so I had to just pop out 2-3 stitches to get the wire all the way up the arms and legs. Do that on the undersides so it's less visible. I didn't need to redo those either except for one where the thread was coming undone. Overall I am really happy with how this came out and I had a lot of fun doing it too. I'm not great at sewing and found this pretty easy to do. It took me about 45 minutes to do the whole thing. I also bought a set of 3 doll stands that are really great and built each one at different heights so he can stand, kneel or sit.

It helps
I bought this so that I would have more options on how to pose my son's elf. It's fairly easy to use, as long as you have some basic sewing skills. Needle and thread are included, which is nice. The thread color wasn't an exact match, but close enough. The metal rods that go into the arms and legs are a bit longer than the actual elf's arms and legs. That's a good thing, since each elf will have slightly different lengths, so you can customize how long you need each piece to be. The metal rods are easy to trim to size. The magnets included seemed strong, but once sewn inside of the fabric were entirely useless. There are also little Velcro dots that can be added to the hands and feet, but they're just stickers, and peel off of the fabric fairly quickly. Still, even though the magnets and Velcro are pretty useless, the kit helped make it easier to pose the elf in different positions each day. I can't give it 5 stars since half the kit didn't work, but I will give it 4 stars because my son thoroughly enjoyed seeing his elf hanging upside down from his knees on the curtain rod, and caught in the middle of climbing the shelves of his bookcase after having tp'd my son's bedroom.

Easy to use and fun for all
The kit is awesome! This was our second one and well worth the cost. Included were 6 needles, 3 with red string and 3 with white, a seam ripper and instructions. The video instructions were very helpful. The wire and magnets make the the elf able to hold more positions, for more creative antics for the elf to get into. The kids enjoy waking up to the elves eve try day doing something new!

Good little kit
Bought this kit after thinking about making the elf more poseable. I think you would need to have an idea of how sewing works to do this, but you don't need to be a professional seamstress. Most of the things in the kit (red/white thread, needles, thread remover) I already owned, but the magnets and soldering pieces, I did not. I'm not really sure if there is a dedicated method on how to do this, but I actually undid the threading that serves as the bends in the knees and elbows. I placed the magnets in hands and feet. Be careful which way you face them, as you may make them opposing if you face them in the wrong directions (I made this mistake, LOL). I also found the magnets to not be as strong as I would have liked. I used a needlenose plier to round off the edge of the solder that formed the hands and feet. This helped me to re-sew the area back up without concern of the sharp edges sticking out. The kit gives you 6 needles, which is not necessary, but very nice to have for future projects. I can't complain. Kit was convenient, took me 30 minutes to do and had everything but the scissors. The elf didn't complain either. I gave her a couple thimbles of whiskey and a Demerol to help with the pain. After a couple shots of my own, we got to work. I would definitely suggest this kit.

Overpriced and Overpackaged - but definitely an elf upgrade
This fancy slider tin with custom foam inserts to hold all the pieces surely costs more than the actual items inside. There are no printed instructions included, they direct you to their website which has very basic instructions provided for free (Other sites and blogs will show you in greater detail). The items included are 4 tiny super-strong magnets, 4 pieces of bendable wire, 3 little sets of mini velcro stick-on dots, a basic seam ripper, and some needles with red and white thread in them. Pretty sure all of this could be found at a dollar store or in your junk drawer. There's nothing special about any of it .. the wire isn't pre-bent, the thread is just basic white and red. The instructions are basically .. rip open the end of each hand and foot, jab in a wire, stitch it back up however you want to stitch it (no instructions on how to stitch it are included). The instructions are also incorrect. 1. They state there is a loop at one end of each of the pieces of wire -- there is no loop, just sharp edges. I used some pliers to loop the end of the wire so it doesn't poke through the hands and feet. 2. They state to put velcro on the hands, but no mention of the feet -- yet it comes with 3 sets of dots and lists only 1 of them as "extra". The velcro wouldn't hide very well on the red feet, I didn't add it there. Not even sure why you need velcro if the magnets hold the hands together. 3. Instructions suggest you jab your way through the stitching in the knee, but makes no mention of the stitching in the elbows. I couldn't get the wire through without ripping a stitch out, and then I had frazzled ends so I completely removed the stitching of the knees and elbows and redid it using the provided red thread and needles. Now I'm done .. mission accomplished. So now I have this fancy tin that seems like it should be useful for something, but it is permanently painted up with elf doctor stuff on it. I don't really want my kids finding the box and knowing I doctored their magic elf ... so I threw it out. Such a waste of packaging. I'd rather they cut the price in half and just sent it in a boring little baggy. If you own: a needle, some white and red thread, a needle, a pair of wire cutting plyers (or kitchen sheers), then save yourself some money and buy 4 tiny rare earth magnets (like 1/4" diameter) and about 2 feet of 12-gauge aluminum wire .. that's literally all you need to do what this kit does. I'm not sure what I was expecting, I guess I thought it would be more complicated and would provide me with clear printed instructions to make it easy. It wasn't and it didn't. There's no trick to it. ALL THAT SAID -- The wire and magnets make your elf so much more agile, they really should have come this way to begin with!!

It comes with pre-threaded needles!
So I kind of thought this was a waste of money (and maybe it is) but it comes with pre-threaded needles! Enough said! The kit comes with a card for the elf doctor website. The videos were just YouTube videos and I had to watch more that weren’t on that site to figure out what to do with the magnets. May have been more helpful if they had 1 video of someone using their kit. It worked though. The elf is now bendable and will stick to metal! It’s easy-ish. It just takes some time. I only used 1 white and 1 red needle with thread so everything else will just be saved for any repairs needed over the years! Great money-making idea!

An Elf Must!
I purchased one of these sets years ago for my sons elf, and now I needed to buy another for my grandsons elf. Though it’s a great buy, I wish it was a little less expensive, the value for the money seems meh, as the magnets for the hands and feet are not very useful. The quality is also meh, as all of the ends of the wire need to be sanded (they are sharp). I used a nail file to sand them so they didn’t tear through my elves while bending them. However, beside my two complaints, this is a great buy for use with the elves!! I would definitely recommend, as it makes more fun for the kids, and helps with creativity in making cute displays!

Good but it needs to be complete
Super cool kit. Even the needle is already prepared and it also includes magnets. Unfortunately in my box the entire Velcro was missing, although the package was fully sealed.

Extensive fun
Incredible kit to make the most of your elf experience. I would like to sugest the following Add thread for the dark elf. Pre fold the tips of wire or add something so it does not pop out with use.

Ups your game
Absolutely fab. Defo try to fit this in prior to the evening of use, as it’s easy to do but can take a bit of time, not tonnes but don’t expect it to be quick! lol. But defo helps with the fun for sure. Highly recommend

Must have!
Got these to make my elves be able to do more. Came with magnets and Velcro. I used the magnets in one. They help hold the hands but aren’t super strong. I am no sewer but managed to figure it out. Just cut the seams added wire and sewed back up. Wish is came with the stitching instructions but there’s lots of videos online. The Velcro pads didn’t stick great but it came with a few of them.
