The Laser Strike is a nice well balance design
I was looking at the Ontario SK-5 and the Laser Strike, I bought both. The Laser Strike is a much different knife when compared to the SK-5. Both are speer point knifes but thats really the only thing they have in common. The Laser strike has a thicker blade and the blade is a small amount wider. The sheath on the SK-5 is a much more compact package, the Esee sheath is at least 3/4 of an inch larger in width when compared to the SK-5 sheath. The ergonomics on the laser strike makes for a really comfortable hand hold regardless of the hold used. The SK-5 is a lighter knife in weight and is really a nice feeling knife when in use but is limited in overall comfort / hand holds due to the handle design. The Laser Strike has a nice kaydex sheath and the supplied belt hook is "OK" for the most part and I kind of like how it sits on the belt. Some may find this set up to be lacking so count on another $50.00 for the mollie back. The SK-5 sheath is nylon but overall more practical as delivered (without spending more money) than the Laser Strike. The mollie back makes the Laser Strike a big package and thats without adding the accessary pouch. I will use the supplied belt clip unless I am going into the woods for a few days as the combination of sheath, mollie back and pouch is too much for daily general use.I hate the paint that production knife have these days and stripped both knifes, the SK-5 will throw sparks with the spine but the Laser Strike will not unless you do some filing on the spine. Kinda crazy seeing as the Laser Strike comes with a rod and tinder under the handle. The Laser Strike had a much nicer overall finish after removing the paint and the Laser Strike had a paint that was very difficult to remove verses the SK-5, the SK-5 had some really rough tool marks on the spine while the Laser Strike tool marks were minimal and easily buffed out with 2000 grit sandpaper.Bottom line the SK-5 feels like a butcher knife and the heavier / wider blade Esee Laser Strike feels like an extension of your hand. The SK-5 is a better slicer for camp cooking due to the thinner blade lacks the weight for chopping. The Laser Strike if pushed could do some chopping but still not like a BK-9 or Junglas. I like the SK-5 but the Laser Strike will be my primary blade for a while based on the fact that I really like this knife, I will use the SK-5 but just prefer the Laser Strike ergonomics.

A good second choice knife.
Let me preface this review by stating that for extended camping / hiking / hunting trips (in the woods and the wilderness) I prefer to carry a main stout survival knife plus a quick draw smaller neck / side / boot knife. If I was living out in the deep woods, ideally I would pack two separate preparedness bags with separate survival items. This knife really impressed me enough for consideration as a main option for a second survival bag: I poured much thought over this ESEE LSP vs a TOPS Outpost Command and finally went with the TOPS alhough it was about $25 for expensive. I will be writing a separate review on that knife at a later date. I tied both ESEE 6 and this one and I liked the ESEE LSP more as compared to the ESEE 6. The LSP just is a bit shorter and offers more options although these come as a caveat which I will get into in this review.Firstly, because I tend to carry two knives when out deep in the boonies, I don't want to carry a really big knife which resembles a short machete, so the 8" and over blades are not practical for me in the sort of terrains where I like to romp. Had I been in Central of South America, then it would be a different story! Foe this purpose, I prefer blades with are between 5-6 inches with the overall length of the knife no more than 11 inches. I prefer the Kydex sheath that ESEE knives come with but I also do not dislike the molle type sheaths which some other folks do not seem to like. The ESEE 6 is longer and a bit more stout as compared to the LSP by not just being an inch longer, but also thicker by 1/8th of an inch. But since we are talking about a second bag knife, I liked the weight and the versatility of this version over the 6P. If the blade length, the stoutness and also ergonomics were the most predominant factors within a 10% either way price range, I would take the aforementioned TOPS knife over the ESEE 6.The LSP has easier removing Micarta handles which come at a cost (the caveat stated above) Because ESEE has used flat head screws which can be removed with the supplied washer that comes with the LSP. I am simply not fond of flat head screws because they tend to be softer and you can strip them easier so I prefer hex head screws. The LSP is full tang but if one removes the handles, it lends itself better to being used as a spear point hence the model name! Also, you can remove the handles and store small items such as fire starting material or fishing lines, hooks behind the handles. In closing, for a second (and lighter) survival / camping backpack, I would choose the ESEE LSP as my main knife and the Izula II as my neck / boot knife. I would also ALWAYS carry a quality hatchet and a quality folding saw no matter as to how stout my survival knife may be.(P.S. I do not recommend any of these fad and fanciful "tactical" hatchets and Tomahawks. Get yourself a traditional axe with a hammer head on its opposite end and one with a wood handle)

Excellent knife, perfect outdoors tool
I gave 4 stars specifically because of the sheath, or rather a part of the sheath. The knife definitely gets 5 stars.I've had my eye on the Laser Strikes for quite a while, and finally saw it around $150 and pulled the trigger. The knife is near 5 inch blade length, 3/16" thick, high saber ground and perfect spear point. The micarta scales are well rounded and perfectly mated to the full tang blade. Inside the handle are a ferro/magnesium rod and 2 quick tinders. The powder coating on the blade is nice & thick and resistant compared to a few other well known brands.Razor sharp out of the box, well balanced and a true outdoors/survival knife. The sheath is a well made taco style Kydex model with several eyelets allowing various options for attachment, and it comes with a securing screw on the top that when slid up tightens the sheath and makes it harder to remove the blade, kind of a "lock". When slid back down, you have the normal Kydex operation. It also comes with an attachment belt clip paddle that you add to the sheath, the belt clip is something I've never been a big fan of, on any knife sheath, mag pouches or even holsters. It is practical to easily clip on or remove from the belt, but I find it to be somewhat narrow and hard to use with certain width of belts. Being a leather worker, I made a leather loop attachment, that allows a lower ride and more freedom of movement without being a dangler, and it accommodates wide belts. All in all an excellent knife, with a very capable sheath, and definitely worth investing in.

Esee great - Knife Country - Not so Much
I am totally happy with my Laser Strike. I can't see how you couldn't appreciate this knife. If compared to anything its size it is by far the best I have used. I bought it for work because my office is close to my field work and so the KA-bar I love made the townies look at me funny when I would throw on a clean shirt and head to the boardroom for a meeting. The laser strike is a little more subtle. I am a bit of a knife and tool nut and have been - since I grew up on the edge of the tundra where a good knife and a hatchet are not optional equipment even if you are not going far. I expect my next knife will be a H.E.S.T. Possibly along with a CKRT tomahawk - not because the Esee isn't great - but because I have this silly obsession and will always be looking forward to the next one. That being said I'm sure Won't deal with Knife Country again. They really screwed me over! In the description of the Laser strike they included the molle back. Was a great deal so I jumped on it even though I could have bought just the knife cheaper elsewhere. Before they shipped the knife I emailed them and asked what color the molle back was because I was considering the accessory pouch. They told me black. When they didn't send the molle back with the knife I called them on it. They emailed me new copy to go in their Amazon description and asked if that solved my problem. When I told them it didn't they didn't even reply! They outright bait and switched or false advertised - call it what you will. I documented the whole thing and don't know if I'll pursue with BBB, Amazon or Esee but I definitely feel ripped off. I wouldn't recommend dealing with Knife Country. Either they don't know their product or they intentionally mislead customers and either one is not acceptable. Don't believe what they advertise - even if you confirm with them while the product is shipping they will tell you what you want to hear to make that one time sale. Buy the Esee - just not from Knife Country!

ESEE bleibt eben ESEE

Preso a 158 euro Ottimo....
