I just received this and the lid won’t stay closed keeps on opening up. Is this normal or do I have a defective product

Be sure and clasp the lid shut. You don't just put it down.

Can this be used up to 240v in the uk?

To use American products in a foreign country, you have to purchase an adapter for that country. I am sure you can find that information online somewhere.
