How do you apply this to the pegs. Do you need to remove them completely? New to cello tuning and never had this with issue with my violin!

For best results remove the peg and apply paste sparingly around the shaft of it, then wipe it around the shaft with a soft cloth to work it into the wood and remove any excess. Then tune up again. I find a little goes a long way. Make sure you’re applying some slight inward pressure on the peg while tuning up. If slipping continues you’d need to see a luthier to get a new peg reamed to fit the hole correctly.
