Roland Mobile Cube Battery Powered Stereo Amplifier

Miracle little amp. I have two, and use them several times a week. The only tweak I'd love is for an extra tone dial -- at the moment it's one tone dial that adjusts both mic and guitar. So you can't turn up the tone on the vocal and down on the guitar if you have a passive guitar pickup. I've solved this with an extra tone pedal, but would love to be able to do it on the amp itself. Otherwise, this is plenty loud -- I never have it up above half way and I play regularly to 50 or 60 people all singing, dancing and playing hand percussion. Batteries last a couple of hours -- rechargeables mean you can recharge one set while playing with another, so you're always covered. Doesn't come with a power lead, but they're fairly cheap online.

Great little amp. 5W is plenty loud for home practice. 3/4 way up will have neighbours banging on the walls. I've had it since 2008 but only now playing it more as I have a new guitar. The things I would have like to have known is a comparison against the Micro Cube and Street Cube (5W version) so my review is with this in mind : - versus Micro Cube : Mobile Cube bit louder (5W vs. 3W) but the main difference is that the Mobile Cube accepts a mic + instrument + mp2/aux. Micro Cube is either mic or instrument + aux. It may be possible to have an additional instrument on the Mobile (using the stereo input, having one instrument in Left and one in Right jack but I haven't tried). Micro Cube has more guitar effects (phaser/flanger/tremolo/octave) and around 7 amp simulations, whereas Mobile cube has chorus/echo/reverb effects and 2 type of distortion This is fine for me as I don't play with distortion and need only echo/reverb for that 1950's sound. Otherwise guitarists may be better off with the Micro Cube and if I were to make purchase again, I'd probably go for Micro Cube (GX version) as I am primarily a guitar player and I don't expect to be singing; the extra features, though probably won't be used, would be nice-to-have.The mobile cube is however shorter which is good for storage in a small flat but both have similar weight. - versus Street Cube : half the cost and half the weight with the same 5W output. Again Mobile lacks effects and amp simulation. Street cube has bigger speakers probably leading to fuller sound plus 3-band equalizer. I leave off one star for power supply annoyances. My rechargeables are probably not up to scratch as others appear to get good mileage from batteries, but I was only getting a few hours out of mine. I did buy a non-Roland ac adapter but it took the seller several goes to get it right : one was clicking, the other was not isolated and hummed, the third was good. I would prefer the ac adaptor supplied or even better built in and advise the purchase of a Roland adapter.

Delighted with this product (its my third......long story). Has not let me down singing for two hours on pavements outside pubs and in bandstands! Nice tone (for jazz) and plenty of control over it. Also lasted well when borrowed for guitar/voice combo. Only slight niggle is that there is no power supply included as standard , and on my second hand one the mic input socket is crackly. Otherwise such a brilliant bit of kit, highly recommend.

Wow! Surprise gift for my son who's always playing his electric guitar...he LOVES this! I had gone around the houses quizzing him off and on to suss out if his guitar teacher had recommended any portable amps as I know nothing about this kind of thing :) Anyway, I resorted to amazon, carefully checked reviews and took a chance. This makes my son sound epic! There's a lovely tone, numerous different effects, and a mic can be used with it too. Came really quickly, well packaged, excellent seller. Found some of the reviews on here really helpful ( the ones from people who know what they are talking about!). This is not an amp just for guitars so there aren't the half dozen or so usual guitar amp dials but it still does the job and my teenage son was delighted with it. I'm in his good book!!

Great! I use this as a stereo monitor for my GT-1000 and it works perfectly and is compact. I have faith in the build quality as I have never had problems with Roland or Boss products in the past. If you want a good monitor for your multi-fx unit then this is the one.

Small and powerful, easily transported and very useable in smaller venues like pubs. Amazing sound for its size..still surprises me when I plug in. Can also be operated with mains power supply, unfortunately this is not supplied with the Mobile Cube otherwise it would have been 5 stars.

I was after an amp to fulfill a specific purpose......mainly something portable that I could plug my guitar effects pedal into and jam along to MP3 backing tracks. So I am not really using any of the Rolands amp effects or the microphone.. I found the sound was best going through the instrument input with volume & tone half way. I probably would have thought the sound was perfectly acceptable until I compared it to what I was trying to replace.....an JBL Xtreme. You may think the price of the JBL is alot more than the Roland, but if you purchase from Harman Kardon direct its £155 vs £129. To me the extra £25 I paid for the JBL puts it in a different league. It sounds so much more solid than the Cube and will go louder without distortion. The Cube sounded tinny, boxy & weak in comparison. I did find, though, the guitar lost definition going through the JBL mainly due to the DSP bass boost muddying the sound. However, this can easily be disabled by pressing 2 buttons whereupon the JBL surpassed the Cube in every aspect. I really wanted to like the Roland mainly because the JBL is awkward to transport. Unfortunately, I know which one I will be sending back........

Bought for my son starting at music college - already has 3 big mains amps but this was to give opportunity for casual playing with mates in halls of residence or for guitar tutoring in people's homes or even street busking. Works really well with remarkably full sound from electric guitar and feed from mp3 player, on either battery or mains adapter. Obviously it's not got the depth of a decent 100watt Marshall with 10 inch speaker but for portable use it's been great; and very solidly built. After tests with electric guitar it was felt unsafe to try connecting bass guitar with pre-amp, this could blow it.

This little thing is a BEAST of an amp for lap steel guitar. It's voiced remarkably well for Hawaiian lap steel. Bobby Ingano is a Hawaiian Lap Steel Master from Hawaii, and he currently tours with Taj Mahal as his steel player and backup electric guitar player. Bobby tours the world with a Roland Mobile Cube for his Rickenbacher Frypan Lap Steel, and a Roland Micro Cube for his stratocaster. Both are powered by 6 AA batteries, and all he does is have them both mic'd with an SM57. Don't knock it till you've tried it. In addition to being very portable, the benefit of gigging with a battery powered amp is that you don't have to plug into the wall. Very many bars, restaurants, venues, etc have dirty power that can introduce noise into your guitar amp. Being Battery powered means you are a completely self sufficient little ecosphere. You can get consistent results, sound, and tone in every playing situation. If the little amp isn't loud enough, then you're likely playing in a band situation where someone can mic your amp with an SM57. IMO, one of the best tones for lap steel guitar, and very serviceable tone for electric and acoustic guitar.

This was purchased primarily to use as a portable PA system, with an inexpensive mic and it works well. I tested it versus the Roland Street Cube, and although not as loud as the Street Cube, this sounds much better for vocals as it does not have the harsh guitar amp sound that the Street Cube has when using a mic. (When using a guitar, the Street Cube is terrific). The secondary use is backyard guitar or guitar/vocals for barbecues, parties, and get togethers and for this use, it also works well. The acoustic guitar sounds nice through it, and for sing a-long situations, or the 'street performer', it is perfect. It is smaller than the photo shows, and very light weight, but appears well made. It can fit in a back pack or carry bag. The batteries last long, as advertised, with Eneloops working well (recharging AA's). The amp can be used in coffee cafe settings for a soloist who might do solo acoustic, or even vocals with strum. It can add just enough reverb to sound natural, and with the tone button set high, carries a nice bass sound from the vocals. A 5 Star product for what it does; rather than the expectation of a full blasting guitar amp. It is great for the small settings described above, or for living room practice.

Multiple functions: private playing with earphones; listening along with an mp3 and cutting out the vocal; even karaoke. Guitar/ukulele tone when plugged in is excellent. These are reviewed highly online, and I was happy that the quality is excellent.
