Ka-Bar 2-3050-9 Mule: a beautiful brute
I'm a fan of Ka-Bar, and so naturally biased about its products, mostly anyway.I really like this knife, heavy-duty, solid, large for a folder, something to last me years around the house, shop, barn, or if lost in the boonies. Should make an excellent every day carry; looks like a workhorse, or workmule.Pros:Nice balanceExcellent handle shape and gripping surface, I expect no problems hanging on even when wet.Substantial blade, nice and deep, thick; should be able to cut most anything.Blade arrived out of the box SHARP, and in fact have a new knick resulting from the initial opening (my bad.)Deployment is smooth and solid, blade locks in place with an authoritative click and shows no movement whatsoever. Opening pressure seems a little tight yet, but believe this will get better with use.Pocket clip allows for very little of the butt end to show, but read on about this. Clip is reversible.Lanyard hole. The blade close release is on the back spine of the handle, a feature I prefer over the common "Flip it over, get your pinky on the snatch bar and push it sideways until the blade can close." designs. I like simple, and prefer not looking at the business edge of any blade.Being fairly large, this is no low-profile, quick draw weapon. Yes, it has a deep pocket clip, but its shear size may draw attention to that big lump in your pocket. Besides, those nice rubber inserts on the handle will slow down your draw, you're not gonna fool anyone. And that may be good.Con:Just one: the pocket clip is too small (smaller than that on my smaller Ka-Bar Agama, a great blade for the buck), thin, very stiff, and has only a small spoon on the end to slip over your pocket material. So, if you prefer blue jeans, Carhartts, or trousers made of thick material, your clip will likely bind. Add to this the rubber inlay strips on the handle, and you may have to work at getting your Mule in and out of your pocket.I'm confused about the cordura carry case. It's nice, all right, I guess. A little overkill in that I like a case with snap closures, or velcro -- but this has both. It also sports loops (with the aforesaid snap/velcro closures) that might work great for carrying your Mule on a backpack or harness system. There is a belt loop down there amongst those loops, any if this is your preferred style, that sharp blade will be handy for cutting those extra straps off smartly. However you wish to use this carry case, be assured your Mule fits snuggly and securely.

An excellent knife
When I received this folding knife I was immediately impressed. This is a big and sturdy folder that means business, yet it tucks neatly away into your pocket (or belt if that's your thing). The AUS8 blade material is excellent for the price point, with a good heat treatment by Ka-Bar. This Japanese steel is very easy to sharpen, takes an razor sharp edge, and holds it for a decently long time. The knife came shaving sharp, which is great since its much easier to maintain a sharp edge with stropping and honing, than it is to make a new sharp edge. The locking mechanism on this folder is STOUT, the lock bar is very thick and snaps into place with authority. Id have to say this is probably the strongest folding knife I own (and I own quite a few folders). There is not even a suggestion of blade play in any direction and has stayed that way with considerable use. For those of you who have heard of the locking problems years back with this knife, I contacted a Ka-bar representative before I bought the knife and they have long since corrected that problem (a bad batch supposedly). The zytel scales are very tough and the rubber they incorporated into the grip are very useful even when wet. The scales are held on to the thick steel liner with quality torx screws, and the pocket clip is well done and strong. The jimping on the blade is also done correctly, not too aggressive. Excellent utility blade shape as well. Overall this is a folding knife that makes you think you are handling a fixed blade, and would be great as a defensive tool (if you cant run away). If it bothers you that this knife is manufactured in Taiwan; i'm sorry because you are missing out on a quality knife. Great quality control, good job Ka-bar. Oh, one more thing: I'd stay away from the Chinese made g10 mules; the quality is no where near the mules made in Taiwan.

Really sturdy knife... but...
This is a really sturdy folding knife very sharp out of the box. Nice little sheat. Nice price. Easy to open BUT (yes, here comes the "but")... i find mine very, very difficult to close.Ps after a couple of drops of light oil and some exercise (of the knife) it is much easier to close

Sturdy, sharp, comfortable strong knife.
First off I owned the Ka-Bar Mule desert serrated. An I absolutely loved that knife except the serrations and that knife and I have been through some deep waters . An I lost it in 2008. I have been needing to replace it ever since. But I was reluctant at first from all the hit and misses I have been hearing from the QC dept on new products. But I finally got the nerve and bought another one yesterday. I was not disappointed in the least!! It is exactly like I rememberd it to be!! It arrived on time and in good packing. Decently strong lock up and shave sharp out of the box. Aus8 is not top shelf steel but it’s definitely not on the bottom like other steels I own!! Update 2021!! The nice sturdy pocket clip was a little tight in and out of the pocket at first. It solved it self overtime. But so did the first one I had. So no problem there!! I have put this knife to work in many situations. From Thrift store production to mechanic work to fishing to camp/hunt. To general E.D.C tasks. I do not ever go anywhere without some form of bladed tool, on my person or in my truck.. An for a solid, bet your life on it, all around work horse of a knife for less then $49. I am sry but I can’t beat that with a stick!! Not all new Ka-Bars are quite up to par with what they used to be!! But rest assured in my experience this one is a winner and a lifer!! All in all I totally recommend this handsome beast of a knife!!!

Excelente acabado y bien afilado
Se siente muy sólida en la mano para funciones tácticas, viene muy bien afilada de fábrica. El color negro tanto de empuñadura y cuchilla la hacen distintiva. Muy buena calidad de materiales.
