Yale P-1-CH-CH-60 - Double Locking Nightlatch - 60mm - Chrome Finish - High Security Can Be Locked From Inside With Key

Made from cast bronze, this lock is very solid - you know it's going to protect your door. Fitting it is simple - in my case I was replacing a different lock, so didn't have to create the mortices. I offered up the template, drilled 4 holes in the right place, screwed on the back-plate, then positioned the strike plate on the door frame (I did have to enlarge the mortice for this, but no big issue. After cutting the new cylinder rod to fit, I fitted the cylinder, then used the two stubby brass screws to attach the main body. In use you can feel the weight of the mechanism and it certainly feels solid, secure and high quality. You can deadlock the inner latch using the key, which prevents it being opened from the inside. In addition, it has a strike-plate deadbolt - when the door is closed, it's not possible to shim the latch using a thin, flexible piece of plastic or metal. Superb.

I bought this lock to replace a lock of the same model which had lasted thirty years. The new lock was exactly the same dimensionally, so was a very easy fit to my door. If starting from scratch you will need some DIY skill or call in a handyman. The lock comes in dark grey (not brass as shown), so is unobtrusive on the door. All parts are heavy and the supplied screws are of good quality. The big advantage of the lock is that you can turn your key on the inside handle before closing the door, and then it is deadlocked, and can't be opened even if some one were to punch through the door panel or glass. This size of lock will fit the frame of a glazed door, so you should end up with a neat, secure lock. Why not 5 stars? Well, it feels a little sticky when I turn the key, and I hope that when the key wears a bit, the action will be smoother.

Exactly as described

Good quality lock, looks smart in chrome finish. Follow the instructions and it’s fairly easy to install: just needed to enlarge the slot in door frame as the lock is bigger than the one it replaced.

It’s a direct replacement for my old one that has lasted 40+ years. The old one is still going strong but we’ve changed from brass to chrome door furniture. Just hope the new one lasts like the old one (although I don’t think I’ll be around to find out!).

Firstly and sadly i saw no way of contacting the seller of this item to make this comment. This was bought as a replacement for an existing night latch. At the time of purchase it was considerably more expensive than shown now (now £31; paid £51). However, that is not the basis of my comment. The bottom latch lock doesn't work and the package looked like this had been previously been sent back, probably because the latch didn't work. Having said that the Lock part is fine, (and easy to fit for us as we already had a backplate, and keep from the one that we were replacing) but for the money paid frankly i would have expected a fully functioning product. Since we hardly ever used the latch i dont intend to go through the hassle of returning but i am disappointed nonetheless.

Does what we want it to

I needed to replace a lock installed in the 1983. It’s not available anymore in Australia and the alternatives would require drilling, patching and painting. Got this from UK and replaced the old one in a few minutes. Excellent!
