Reasons I Can't Sleep

I read this in two nights before bed!! I resonated with most of these poems. My two favorites from this book are “I Still Need Training Wheels” (pg. 18) and “Somewhere Between Then and Now” (pg. 114). I will share this poem (pg. 114) with my mom on Mother’s Day. Tears welled up in my eyes reading both… truly hitting home.

I don’t feel so alone anymore. It’s a wonderful book. So thankful for the author.

Beginning with “Nightmares”, Alyssa’s dense poetry truly encapsulates the meaning of “No light without dark”. With such relatability, you almost feel like this is a reflection of your own life.The second half, prefaced by the “Dreams” illustration, helps tie together the dynamics of love, family, friendship, and pain. Needless to say, the emotional parallel between each portion of the text can lead to powerful reactions and self-reflection. This is something you need to experience by yourself in a candle-lit room.Great creatives know how to impact you personally with their work. “Am I destined to only be the artist, and never the muse?” is one of my favorite segments, which signifies the struggle & sacrifice of empaths in the current climate.One may wonder why we go through all of this emotional turmoil, and why most of it is inflicted by the people we love. In our generation, we have worked against racism, hate, and inequality, but have also created a daunting new set of hurdles to overcome. Depression is our new epidemic.For a woman of Alyssa’s status, to know that she faces these interpersonal battles and has a voice reaching thousands of young women, it gives hope to many of us who feel invisible in our constant search for love and acceptance. There are more single Americans than ever before, and existing families have been torn apart over lust and deception.Do you chase love and lead with your heart? Or do you listen to the voice of reason resonating through your head? Should we be defensive and selfish, or is that holding us back from the love of our life? These are the questions we’re all asking ourselves. After reading though these testaments, you’ll soon realize that your nightmares and dreams are the same reasons you can’t sleep, either.

Its a really good book, legible and its a good size. You can carry it in your bag and take it with you wherever you go.

Warning! Do not drink wine with this book or else you will bawl your eyes out. Or if that's what you're looking for in a raw, honest, heart breaking and truthful read then pick your favorite vino and cry it out. This book is amazing and I would recommend it to anyone who has gone through a break up, questioned their worth or simply fell in love. Alyssa is an amazing author and I hope she makes another book!

This book is fabulous, I’ve not been able to put it down. When I find one passage that’s my favorite I turn the page and I fall in love with another. Very well written.. congrats! I hope this is a start to a wonderful career for you.
