Predictable yet very watchable
Solace is not a film that re-invents the wheel, very far from it. This, however, doesn't stop the film from being 90 minutes of sitting back, enjoy with a cup of tea and let it wash over you.It has a very predictable storyline but a very solid set of performances from its cast and I do wish that Colin Farrell had more screen time as he comes in as the villain who sees himself as doing the right thing and you really want to see that played out more on screen, although it feels as though they only had Farell on set for about 3-5 days of shooting and this is sadly all you get is him in the last 20 minutes.Definitely not anything new but anyone who enjoys an American crime TV show will find this is a good watch, even with its 90 minute runtime.

Very good crime thriller with strong cast.
Writers Sean Bailey and Ted Griffin do a pretty good job here, and Brazilian Director Afonso Poyat has kept the actors on their toes and the filming very tight AND taut. Joe Merriweather (greatly underrated Jeffrey Dean Morgan) and his FBI partner played by Abbie Cornish are investigating a serial killers crimes when Joe seeks help from Dr.John Clancy, an old friend and a criminal analyst with a perceptive mind AND the ability to 'see things in the future'. His input is invaluable to the investigation but he believes he has met more than his match pitting himself against Charles Ambrose (Colin Farrell). It was nice to see Farrell play AGAINST type as he is invariably cast as the 'goodie' in most of his films. Good story, interesting and for the most part holds your attention. Has several unexpected 'twists' AND shows Clancy to be something of a hypocrite. Enjoy.

Pretty good stuff
Although mildly ridiculous in some ways, this still proved to be an engaging and intriguing serial killer thriller. In amongst the usual cop cliches there are some sparks of imagination here alongside flashes of style and invention.Anthony Hopkins brings a welcome, understated touch of class to proceedings as part of a relatively strong cast. The synopsis above gives away large parts of the plot and perhaps the film would have been better served with some of it kept under wraps during the opening acts to provoke more of an air of mystery and curiosity. Such is life, there's still enough good stuff here to make it a worthwhile endeavour.

Anthony Hopkins and Colin Farrell were both excellent in this movie
Anthony Hopkins and Colin Farrell were both excellent in this movie, Hopkins reviving another slightly Hannibal Lecter level of intellect in his character and Farrell bringing that wonderful energy he has in films. The director/writers seemed to have ham handedly attempted to throw a bit too much sentimentality in the script, which it didn't really need, or could have been much more subtle with. The movie is far too short for that level of sentimentality, it should have been more subtle in order to make it feel more genuine. That aside, enjoyable to watch. The perceptive ability shown by Hopkin's and Farrel's characters makes a really captivating idea and concept.

Excellent - but I knew it would be.
Anthony Hopkins. - what an amazing actor he is and has been for many many years This is the sort of part he plays so well. He brings his experience with him and he has a lovely Welsh face which brings calmness and power to this unusual character . He has such quality that he brings the standard of the whole piece up to a very high level. Especially rich for those of us who live in south Wales. Richard Burton, Anthony Hopkins, Michael Sheen all from the same area just along the road but with the talent and skill to entertain the whole world. This film is excellent - an extraordinary idea made into a story that has been extremely well told. Enjoy.
