Review: The BEST Pencils Ever - I am a person who was a strong believer in a number two wooden pencil. The mechanical pencils I tried were always cheap, would break in a single day and would leave my writers bump enflamed. These are THE BEST MECHANICAL PENCILS. The .5 and .7 lead were not Hardy enough for me as I push hard when I write so the .9 is great and mimicked the same sturdiness as a wooden pencil. I love the extra erasers they include but still carry along a white eraser as I think the eraser could not withstand my aggressive erasing. Overall, get them, they are really luxurious pencils.

Reliable everyday pencils that just get the job done
I’ve been using the BIC Velocity Original 0.9 mm mechanical pencils for a while now, mostly for note-taking, quick sketches, and general day-to-day writing. Overall, they’re solid—nothing flashy, but dependable in the ways that actually matter. The first thing that stands out is the 0.9 mm lead size. It’s thicker than the typical 0.5 mm, and that makes a noticeable difference. The lead doesn’t snap nearly as often, especially if you tend to press a bit harder when writing (which I do). That alone saves a lot of frustration. It’s also better for longer writing sessions since you’re not constantly clicking for more lead or dealing with breakage. The grip is surprisingly comfortable. It has a soft rubber feel, and it doesn’t get slippery even after extended use. I’ve used these during long stretches of writing, and my hand doesn’t feel fatigued the way it sometimes does with cheaper pencils. From what I’ve seen in other users’ feedback—and I’d agree—the pencils feel lightweight but not flimsy. They’re clearly made to be disposable, but they don’t feel like they’ll fall apart in your hand. Here’s how I’d break down the experience: What works well: The thicker 0.9 mm lead is durable and forgiving Comfortable grip for extended writing Smooth writing with consistent line quality Easy click mechanism—no jams so far Good for everyday tasks like notes, lists, and basic drafting Where it falls short: The plastic build feels a bit cheap if you’re used to premium pencils Erasers are small and wear down quickly (pretty standard, but still worth noting) Not ideal for very fine or detailed work Lead can feel a bit soft depending on pressure In terms of real-world use, these are great for practical situations—taking notes, marking documents, filling out forms, or even doing quick math work. I’ve also used them for casual sketching, though they’re not meant for precision drawing. One thing I appreciate is that they’re low-maintenance. I can toss one in a bag or leave it on a desk without worrying too much. If it gets lost, it’s not a big deal. That ties into the value for money, which is honestly one of the strongest points here. For a pack of five, you’re getting consistent performance without paying a premium. That said, if you’re looking for something more refined—metal body, ultra-fine lines, or long-lasting erasers—this isn’t that. These are more about convenience and reliability than precision or aesthetics. Overall, they do exactly what I expect from a mechanical pencil in this category. Nothing more, nothing less. And in a way, that’s what makes them worth buying.
