BEST decision ever
We should have installed this heater in our bathroom years ago!! What a difference this little thing makes!! Since we built our home, we have limped along trying to use a space heater on chilly mornings, but it would take hours to feel any warmth. This unit only takes a couple of minutes, and it is powerful!!! Also, since it is installed within the wall, it frees up the valuable floor space in our bathroom. We are delighted with it. We bought it because it is manufactured by a well known mfr, so if we need replacement parts in the future, they will probably be available. Know that you will need to have 220 power run to the unit, not regular 110.

heats well
The first few times I used it after installation,it tripped its own reset after a few minutes.Youre supposed to have to remove the grill but I stuck a knifeblade in and pushed it back in.But finally it stayed reset. There's a half wattage setting you can use by removing a jumper and having only one element instead of 2,but the one element requires 240v,so you have to leave both line circuits intact.I used 12/2 w ground to install, with an AC fused disconnect. On to the fan noise issue. When the fan is new it is quiet. But it grows louder in a month and sounds like it is about to fail. One problem is that the motor is too heavy not to be supported at both front and rear,so it only has 2 little nuts holding it to the rear and they must be TIGHT.There is nothing in the front and it wobbles about reverberating its woes to the entire assembly.Another issue is end play or runout.I did this:Remove power, remove knob, then grill, remove fan from motor by pulling it forward,it is a friction fit.Remove 4 screws at corners of unit being careful not to let it fall out of wall insert..I propped the unit up at the bottom, but it's best to disconnect the wires(is power off?)and place on a bench.Remove the 2 mounting nuts from the fan motor, let the fan motor down to rest without pulling hard on the wires.Using a T15 torx bit remove the 2 motor thru bolts, then remove the front and rear bearing from the shaft, taking care not to lose the 2 tiny thrust washers on front and rear.Dab a little smidgin of automotive grease into the rear bearing with a toothpick to cushion the end play.Put a drop of light oil(remington gun oil?,sewing machine oil?)on each end of shaft and reassemble. When you get back to putting the motor into the unit,be sure the nuts are good and tight. When I got my heater back together it was nice and quiet again.

The builders Report : Broan - NuTone is Beyond Worthless !!!
The builders Report : Broan - NuTone is Beyond Worthless !!!I will try the Fahrenheat and Marley heaters.I have used numerous brands of this type of 4000 watt wall heater over the years. Many of my 1,000 Plus rental apartments have this type of heater installed in the bathroom. If I get any complaints about inadequate heat in a particular room, this type of heater would always fix the problem, simple, fast and cheap. Just don't use Broan / NuTone !Installed 6 of these Broan / NuTone heaters in my beach house for backup heat. Every one of them has failed repeatedly. The thermal overload switches and the circuit beaker switches break all the time. I keep a box of them for replacement. The thermostats are a joke, as other users have reported. I hard wired in wall thermostats, but the other sensors fail relentlessly. The reset button is in the worst place, difficult to reset, difficult to tell if it has reset. The fan makes a racket. Don't think you will talk on the phone with this heater running, but don't worry, it won't run unless you are a really good electrical repairman with a box of specialty parts.I plan to tear out every one of these heaters and run them over with my bulldozer. This is MY HOUSE ! it is personal !This is the simplest of devices, other brands are still working after 30 years. Broan / Nutone has major manufacturing quality control problems and design issues. Not only will I never buy this product, I will never again buy any product with the Broan or NuTone (same merged company)This company has no shame !

A good product.
I've only used this for the last couple of months. I'm using it to heat a 900 sq.ft. house that we can supplement with wood heat. It's only gotten down to the high teens outside so far and we have no problems heating with this unit. I actually replaced a 1980's 75,000 watt central heat unit with this much smaller unit placed in a common space. My only concern is with the thermostat. It sometimes continues to run even after lowering the temp. I'll order the wall thermostat. That should fix it. Overall, it seem like a good product. It has a fan so it makes a little sound, but not noisy.

Poorly Manufactured and Noisy
This Heater was purchased to replace an old model #194 that had served us well for over twenty+ years. Dimensions are the same, so the new unit fit directly into the framed wall opening without any cutting or drywall repairs required ...like a hand in a glove. The problem is the new heater frame, fan mount and in-wall box all vibrate when the fan is running, creating Excessive NOISE! I have spent many frustrating hours adding vibration isolators at various locations to reduce the ensuing 'rattle' when the heater is running. More attention to quality manufacturing would have eliminated this problem ...but it does heat very well.
