I don't know why the bathroom always has a little odor. This thing can greatly reduce the odor in the bathroom sewer. It is easy to install. You need to measure the round mouth of your sewer before installation.

I bought this to keep sewer gas from backing up in my very old (built in 1909) basement drain. It works great.....IF.....you make sure the bottom of the 'valve' is filled with water. My water softener drains into this drain, so usually it keeps the bottom part of that valve full of water. Lately, my softener hadn't recycled, and we had no rain (I've got a really damp/leaky basement) so the water evaporated out of the valve. When that happened, and my washing machine drained, I could smell the sewer gas. Now, before I decide to do a load of laundry, I just go down to the basement and pour a drinking glass full of water down the drain. That fixes the problem.

This will not prevent liquid backflow. It is basically a trap. The top pipe sits in a bowl of water at the bottom that must be primed with water to stop vapors from coming back up.
