Why does the lid always pop up by itself?

The cover was installed in the wrong way. Correct way: grasp the lid by hand and rotate and press it into the tank. Please do not press the lid directly into the can, otherwise the lid will spring back.

Why was the storage jar broken when I received it?

Nice canister. The attached seal that came with the unit was torn, but they included a spare, and it was easy to replace.

Nice looking product

These look very nice. I like the wooden tops. The only negative is after several months, I can't get them to stay closed. You'll notice in the picture that the gray one is not closed at all hardly. The blue one does the same thing. It would be a solid 5 if they stayed closed. Update: Neither container is ever all the way closed. Such a bummer!
