A peek into early Gandhi
Gandhi's autobiography written more than 100 years ago stands by itself. It gives us an window into the India and South Africa of the late 19th and early 20th century. One gets a sense of the difficulties faced by Indians due to racism and poverty. It was a revelation to me that Gandhi was a strong supporter of British rule during that period of his life. The Satyagraha movement was also born during this period. Gandhi's focus on nonviolence so early in his life clearly comes across in the book. I must also congratulate Sri Nirmal Kanti Bhattacharya for his splendid Bengali translation. This book is a must read.
