Surprising sound volume and clarity for such a tiny speaker
I bought a variety of compact 8 ohm speakers to evaluate for use with a horn-bell sound module in a model train engine. This one was the smallest and one of the least expensive speakers I evaluated. It certainly didn't look like a traditional speaker. Frankly I was expecting this speaker to perform the worst. But in tests, the speaker performed surprisingly excellent. It surpassed my expectations. A further advantage of the speaker is that it is encased and easy to mount.

Nice quality sound for Home Assistant voice notifications.
I paired this with an M5Stack Atom Lite ESP32 and a MAX98357 DAC/amplifier and set the volume at +12dB by shorting the gain pin to ground. The Atom is running ESPHome. I am driving it with the Piper TTS add-on to Home Assistant. It works great - volume is at a standard voice level and the voice is very clear. Overall it sounds better/clearer than a cell call on speaker with a volume that is similar. Below is the yaml I'm using on the Atom, if that is helpful. Of course your chosen pins may vary. Total cost, $22.50, but I'm using the same Atom for two other purposes - a relay and a smoke detector, so effectively this is very cheap. i2s_audio: i2s_lrclk_pin: GPIO23 i2s_bclk_pin: GPIO19 media_player: - platform: i2s_audio name: ESPHome Voice Announcements dac_type: external i2s_dout_pin: GPIO22 mode: mono

Works well and sounds alright. Nice little test speaker for DIY projects before committing to a nicer one.
