I cycle to work every day and also like cycling at the weekend. I saw the Smart Halo ages ago on Kickstarter and thought I would give it a go. I like the idea of it being a Nav system, while also being a light, security device and notifications for my phone while cyclingSuper easy to setup and connect to my iPhone. Each one comes with its own little key which means only you can unlock it from the handlebars. In the app you programme where you are going and straight away SH will start directing you. I love the light system which shows you both gentle or hard corners, it also flashes when you’re getting closer so you know when to turn.Takes a few rides but stick with it, you get used to it. When the battery needs charging, just use that key to pop it off and take it inside to charge with micro-USB.The light works great. There is also a security aspect which will alert you and set off an alarm of someone tries to steal the bike - PERFECT for London where I’ve had my bike stolen before.Still lots to explore, but I love my Smart Halo. This is worth it for the Alarm/Security functionality alone. It first warns and then is loud enough to scare of thieves. I am using it with an Alarmed D lock.The light output isn’t brilliant, but it’s okay for what it is.For iOS, the smart halo can record your ride, and add data into the health app and sync it with your Apple Watch ring progress. This is useful as with the Apple Watch, cycling is not auto detected. You can switch this on or off via the app.Fitment was great for me, It is a little bulky, but if you don’t need the height extensions it’s not too bad. My only other issue is the screen isn’t really bright enough in sunny weather, you can see it, but barely.For iPhone, you may need to actually open the app, as the automatic Bluetooth connection isn’t enough - if the smart halo app isn’t running in the background. And iOS kills background apps after a while.

I have managed to break part of base on putting it together for the first time today. Not sure how it will be like to use yet especially with the damage i have done, but worried it has very weak base. Not sure if I can get a spare part as googling this hasn't helped. Await seller answer to replacement part

Be prepared to invest some time getting your brain tuned to its 'operating philosophy'.It's a remarkably simple concept, and remarkably simple to use once you have 'bonded' with it. What I'm getting at is that it uses ingenious design and technology to do what it does, and you will be rewarded by reading the instructions thoroughly, playing with it, and understanding how it does what it does.I love it.

Be warned it doesn’t fit all bikes especially road bikes. The fillings won’t fit over your handle bar bracket they are two narrow. This makes the whole thing useless for my type of bike. I gave it to my mate who sold it an bought a different unit that is easy to use and doesn’t look like a Christmas tree when being used.

FittingThis is designed to fit over the joint in the middle of your handlebars. No way will it clear the bolts on my bike (Cube Mountain Bike) OK, so maybe you can fit it alongside rather than over the central column. Errr No. My handlebars are not the same diameter over the whole length so whilst one side of the device fittings will grasp the bar when tightened the other side won't (or vice versa.) I have had to 'botch' the fitting the best I can.SoftwareI was told when I purchased SmartHalo that software would SOON BE AVAILABLE so you could plot your own route using Google Maps and then be guided by the device. Although useful I didn't want to use it purely to show me a route between my starting point and a destination. This promise of a software update never happened.

This is really good. It obviously works with your mobile phone, so you need that with you, but it's navigation works great, and it notifies you when you get a call/message as well as having a light that comes on by itself, when it gets dark and having an alarm built in. It is a tad expensive though, and wish it was around £80-£100, but I got it on offer instead of the full price. Overall I'd recommend this to others.
