Concentration

The Monroe Institute offers many books, CDs, courses and workshops on how to achieve out-of-body experiences (OBEs). Their 56-minute CD 'Concentration' is the first one I've bought and listened to. My intention with the CD was to achieve an altered state of consciousness and/or an OBE and not just relaxation or clarity for mental tasks.For those new to Hemi-Sync technology and OBEs, Monroe Institute founder Robert Monroe began his out-of-body research quite by accident! In 1958 he experienced strange physical and psychic phenomena including temporary separation of his conscious mind from his sleeping body after listening to experimental audio frequencies his company developed for learning-enhancement products. These results were totally unexpected (and unwanted), disturbing him greatly. He sought psychiatric help while the experiences continued with increasing clarity and accuracy. After exhaustive physical and psychiatric tests he was given a clean bill of health and encouraged by his doctors to continue researching the phenomena in a scientific fashion. This he did non-stop for the rest of his life.Likewise, author William Buhlman has spent decades delving into OBEs and provides excellent step-by-step methods in how to achieve them. I am currently working my way through his book  The Secret of the Soul: Using Out-of-Body Experiences to Understand Our True Nature  and experimenting with his new 6-CD course  How to Have an Out-of-Body Experience: Transcend the Limits of Physical Form and Accelerate Your Spiritual Evolution . Both have given me a wealth of knowledge and ideas over the past weeks, but no phenomena as of yet. I felt I should combine the brainwave alterations of a Monroe Hemi-Sync CD with the OBE prep techniques.Casual Listeners to 'Concentration', Be Warned: This CD has absolutely no music or voices or birdsongs or drums or trickling waterfalls, only the repetitious sound of surf (and maybe wind? can't tell) combined with brain-hemispheric synchronizing binaural beats ('Hemi-Sync'). I could not distinguish the hemi-sync notes from the rest--they blend in with the stereophonic surf making a pleasant but rather bland white noise.Amazingly, it WORKED the way I hoped it would the very first time I listened to it! I had some great phenomena and almost achieved my first OBE!Within seconds of starting the CD (using stereo headphones while reclining comfortably in a dim room) I could feel and 'see' huge ocean waves in front of me, lifting me up and down, over and over in a vast rolling sea. The imagery was unlike anything I've experienced yet using Buhlman's CDs and my own mental processes, much more intense and action-oriented. Imagining and 'feeling' movement is a highly-acclaimed tool for attaining OBEs. The 'Concentration' CD provided exactly the right help for a newbie like me to feel powerful movements immediately!It was incredibly easy to try out any kind of sensation I desired---from gentle wave action to hurricane-force tides, from floating-cloud feelings to shooting like an arrow upward through the atmosphere, my 'arms' extended above my 'head' like a cosmic diver. I 'saw' my ethereal 'face' begin to pull forward as my physical face seemed to blow backward like loose hair in the wind of a bright blue astral sky....I stayed with the wind/sky scenario and suddenly the surf sounds became roaring jet engines and I was aboard a speeding plane! It was incredible.I used any lulls in my experience to experiment with other techniques I'd been reading / hearing about (and practicing) to see what worked best for me. Many times I demanded "clarity now" or "out of body now" plus I repeated affirmations that, once I was in this hemi-synced state, made more sense and got me closer to an authentic experience. My thoughts and intentions floated by, moving away from fear and toward my 'highest spiritual self' (whatever that is! I simply imagined it and said "go there"!)At one point I experienced complete body paralysis and a tingling warmth which is a direct precursor to an OBE! I also felt a physical touch from a 'force' when I focused on a point between my closed eyes. This force gently took my head and tilted it back to align it better with my neck and open my throat. I felt a current of healing power flow into and out of my head (crown chakra), come down to my throat (throat chakra), flow into my lung system and into my heart chakra, clearing out blockages and healing and opening things up. My annoying cough stopped, my breathing became deeper and calmer, and I was smiling broadly, simply awestruck! I felt that this force was suggesting I try a different position for future OBE attempts, so I interrupted my experience to lay flatter with my head tilted back instead of chin downward into my chest. After readjusting my position I continued trying to ride the wave movements of the CD but the experience was winding down... just then the CD began to fade out.Buhlman says it may take a month or more of daily practice before an OBE (or major OBE precursors like paralysis, vibrations and loud noises) occur, so I consider this a Grand Success for my first-time serious attempt!(Note: It was recommended (from some reviewers on and off Amazon) that the original Hemi-Sync CDs may be superior to downloaded mp3s which is why I purchased this used CD in like-new condition for a few dollars more than the mp3. So I can't speak to the effectiveness of the mp3 or other formats.)

I listen to this at night before bed along with the Shamans Dream (I have 3 kids under the age of 3 that dont allow me to meditate, lol) Since I have been listening to these I can recall and retain infomation better. My deep sleep has improved x10, and the wildest thing i think is I am able to write better with my left hand(im a righty). I am calmer in tense situations. If I listen to Concentration first, about 10 minutes afer I close my eyes is when visions begin. I can't explain them but they feel extremely spiritual and uplifting. I have 2 other Hemisyncs but they are not as effective as these two (for me anyway, but everyone is different). I definitely plan on buying more.

It is not a magic wand, but it does help me stay on task when I'm unable to focus on my own. It is essentially white noise, instead of having a musical track like the other albums I purchased from Monroe Products. Still, it helps me, and I'd love to see more of Monroe's albums available as MP3 downloads on Amazon.com!

I just became familiar with Monroe products from a skillset that a occult teacher is recommending, concentraion is one of those required skills that are in the line up. Basically your gonna hear white noise, kinda like ocean sounds which incorporates the Hemi Sync binaural sound process. The CD runs for about an hour,headphones are suggested for best results. You can also occupy yourself with something else while listening to it.I think its important to note that you should pace yourself with this stuff so you can see how it takes. Add or subtract your listenings as you see fit. So far I seem to be satisfied.

I bought this mp3 and have been trying it for a while now, and it doesn't work for me. I use earbuds (there's an annoying beat in the track that comes out when I use speakers).It does not help me concentrate, and the sound switching back and forth between left-and-right earbuds is distracting.I'm going back to my Vivaldi while I search for a better "white noise" option.

Believe it or not: you are more focussed when listening to this music! You should use headphones, of course.

I don't know if it's helping, but it's not hurting! I play it every day. It gives me the background noise I need yet doesn't distract me like my audio books do. I use this whenever I'm learning something new at work, or working on something very complex.

It works! it really does! I use itI use it when working in groups and everybody has no problem concentrating and the deadline is no problem. And when I have to study for a test its perfect!

this hemi sync 'concentration' cd stopped playing after just 20 minutues!. I played it several times on a brand new cd player, which plays my other discs in full. As a busy carer, I couldn't be bothered to return the item, and I feel sure that other customers will have the same experience. I can't recommend this item as it is not as described - 58 minutes long.
