Interesting idea around the affect knowing things a bit early can have on your actions. Good watch even a second time.

An excellent adventure with a neat twist.
What's a good adventure movie to you? If it's a movie with a neat premise and excitement then this movie is for you. Nicolas Cage is excellent as an odd man who's been able to see every outcome for every action over the next two minutes since birth. Such a person's world would be odd indeed and Cage plays that sort of disjointed human perfectly. Two minutes is the limit of his ability but you'll be amazed at how helpful that can be. Two minutes, that is, until he sees a girl in his future. Who knows where his basically magical ability came from or it's meaning? It is tied in some small part to this girl, Jessica Biel. Julianne Moore plays an unpleasant Federal agent who's prickly as hell. Her demeanor is likely necessary due to the stakes. Some nondescript terrorists want to blow up a nuclear bomb in Los Angeles and Moore's character wants to use Cages powers to find them first. Watching this special person do his special things is extremely fun. When the feds storm the terrorist hide out and they're all making their way through the area it's a treat to watch all the soldiers crouched and running, looking everywhere for the bad guys when Cage's character is just walking with them. He knows at all times when a bullet might find him. Some critics panned the ending but I found the explanation of the girl's influence a reasonable one. They also complained of a lot of plot holes of which I only saw one. How did the bad guys know Cage's character would ruin their plans? That would likely have been explained in a sequel. Did the bad guys have a Nicolas Cage of their own? What were his/her powers? We'll never know now because today's critics wouldn't know a fun movie if it kicked them in the junk!Watch this movie and enjoy!PeteR..

Who Knows What's In The Future?
This is about a man who can see two minutes into the future. Cris, played by Nicolas Cage, a magician in Las Vegas, has the uncanny ability to see into the future. FBI Agents, one in particular, Callie, played by Julianne Moore, is in hot pursuit of Cris for his expertise in looking into the future. Callie wants Cris to help locate in which U.S. city a nuclear bomb has been placed. Cris eludes the agents and meets Liz at a diner, and they decide to travel together to Flagstaff.Liz says she has to make a two hour or so stop along the way which is at the Havasupai Native American Reservation located next to the Grand Canyon. Liz teaches a class at the reservation. The view of the Grand Canyon is spectacular.Liz and Cris leave the reservation and go to a remote cabin where they stay the night. The next morning, Liz goes to town to purchase some supplies and she is accosted by FBI Agent Callie who shows her a video about Cris indicating that he is a fugitive from justice. Callie convinces Liz to slip a pill in Cris' drink to make him sleep and the agents will take him away. Will Liz put the pill in Cris's orange juice? This is an intense film, filled with a lot of action.Nicolas Cage as Cris is outstanding. Juliane Moore as FBI Agent Calli is excellent. Jessica Biel as Liz is outstanding and quite beautiful The supporting cast is outstanding.

Horcruxes and the FBI
I first saw this in 2007 and liked it. It is perhaps Cage's best performance, at least easily the most palatable.Pulling for him to win at every turn (no pun intended) was easy. The one thing that I thought loosened up the script (spoilers ahead) was the following. If they did not close down the cell towers and the sniper reported in that he was killed, then there would be no reason to hold his girl as bait. She, and the bomb strapped to her body would no longer be necessary. But then the rest of the picture came to light. The writers figured out that this was a flaw and fixed it. The only thing I was still hoping to see was how he was going to actually locate the bomb, but instead I was staring at the credits! I hope he someday finishes this movie, especially nowadays when ...

Exciting SF inspired by "The Golden Man" by Philip K Dick
Nicholas Cage produced and took the lead in this clever, action-packed film inspired by "The Golden Man", a short story by Science Fiction author Philip K Dick.Quite a few of Philip K Dick's stories have been made into films -"Minority Report" and "Paycheck" spring to mind. In my opinion this is one of the best and more imaginative, though certainly not the closest to the original. The hero of "Next" takes his name and his special abilty from "The Golden Man" and some of the action scenes brilliantly bring to life equivalent passages from the short story, although the setting and plot are completely different. Where Philip K Dick's original was set in a time after a war where the government hunts down and euthanises all mutants including those with special abilities, "Next" is set in a time like our own, in which a government faced by a serious terrorist threat is looking for any angle, no matter how strange, to help defeat it.Cage plays Cris Johnson, who has the psychic ability to see into the future - but usually only two minutes into the future, and then only if it is something which affects him. Then he sees a beautiful woman (Liz, played by Jessica Biel) visit a restaurant at a specific time of day at some uncertain point in the future, so he waits there for a few minutes each day at that time until she appears.Cage has been earning a living on the stage using his talent to do "magic tricks" and supplementing it with a little gambling. But unknown to him, FBI special agent Callie Ferris, played by Julianne Moore, has become aware of his abilities and is convinced his talent is real. She is desperate to apprehend a group of terrorists who have stolen a nuclear warhead and is trying to recruit Cris in the hope that he can help to find the nuke before the bad guys set it off.Unfortunately for both Cris and Liz, the terrorists discover that the same Federal agency which is hunting them is also very interested in Cris. (This isn't stated in the film at any stage but I assumed while I was watching the film that the terrorists are supposed to have either a mole or some kind of highly effective bug inside the FBI.) So the terrorists decide to kill Cris as a potential threat or use someone close to him as a hostage or as bait to flush him out ...The action is pretty much non-stop, usually highly dramatic, and has some original twists, the acting is mostly pretty good, and although there is the odd hole in the plot it is not too difficult to suspend disbelief. The twist at the end is very clever. No, it is never quite explained who the terrorists are or what their objective is, other than that they are a group of ruthless, highly trained and well equipped french-speaking caucasians who want to nuke Southern California. Sadly, in the world we are living in today, the presence of a group of terrorists supported by considerable resources who are prepared to go to great lengths, including the loss of their own lives, to blow up innocent people, is hardly the most implausible part of the film.I'm surprised this wasn't more successful at the box office, I thought it was a very good film, especially if you like Sci-Fi thrillers. If you enjoyed either Paycheck or Minority Report, you will very probably like Next.
