I never used a round puck type sharpener. After I soak it I wipe off excess water and use leather gloves to hold it until I get more practice. It brought new life to my >50 year old machete. It put an edge on a new hatchet which was extremely dull. Lesson was don’t buy a hatchet you have not held and inspected unless you are willing to modify and sharpen it. But if you do then consider this good sharpening pick. You don’t need to use oil with it. It fits in a pocket. It works well.

This stone has 2 sides with different grit to bring your tool to a fine edge. It can be used on more that just an ax. I use mine on my lathe tools to a fine edge.

It is what it says it is. For a larger tool, this is about the limit of how fine that is actually useful. Does the job.
