Alan Dunn's Ultimate Collection of Cake Decorating Paperback – Illustrated, 5 Oct. 2012

this is a must have for anyone who makes sugar flowers. with 96 different varieties you are guaranteed to find inspiration here. The instruction are clear well worded and simple to follow. The finished results are stunning. The author shows amazing skill. I pre ordered this book and i am more that happy with my purchase.But with every purchase there is a down side and with this book i would advise that it is not for a beginner. So if you are just starting out by all means make this purchase because it will inspire you. But buy it with the knowledge that this book is aimed at the advanced crafter and assumes prior learning and experience. I have a workshop booked with Alan Dumm in november I hope he agrees to sign my copy. We will be making cyclamen I was hoping to get ahead and practice but it is not included in this book.Oh by the way note that this is NOT a hard cover book disappointing but in my opinion not a reason to return it

This a collection of instructions from three previous Alan Dunn books and for me it is perfect as I don't have the other books; Tropical & Exotic Cakes, Celebration Cakes and Sugarcraft Flower Arranging.This is master craftsmanship in sugar, it is very easy to forget that these flowers are sugar and not real. Inspiration for the sugarcrafter to achieve great things and how to do it, although with a lot of practise. Although I love this book, I would have liked more detailed instructions on the basic techniques used because they seem to be the basis for creating almost all the flowers, there were times when I thought "yes, but HOW ?" I assume that this book is aimed at crafters experienced in the various techniques such as frilling.One drawback which seems common to Alan Dunn's books is photographing white paste against a very pale background in the step by step instructions, it doesn't help.Absolutely no regrets buying this book.

my grandsons girl friend is very good at cake making and decorating. She has quite a collection of your books and finds them very helpful. She is getting very clever at cake decorating. Merry Christmas

Beautifully illustrated book with instructions on how to make over a hundred plants and flowers. Plus cake recipes, fondant, flowerpaste and cold porcelain recipes. Alan also includes display suggestions and templates towards the end of the book. I love that Alan keeps his equipment and tools to a minimum and often uses the same cutters and veiners for different projects. This is not a book for those starting out in sugar flower making who may find Alan Dunn's Sugar Flower Skills a more practical starting point where the construction is more detailed. Some reviewers have complained that this book is a compilation of several books. Not yet having the privilege of owning all of Alan's books, The Ultimate Collection of Cake Decorating happily fills the gaps. The only suggestion I would have for improving the book would be to include an alphabetical index for easier reference.

Oh my! What a fantastic book! Beautiful arrangements which it's hard to believe are made from sugarpaste! They're absolutely amazing! I cannot wait to get started in creating my own flowers thanks to the detailed step by step photography which is very clear. The author has introduced each flower arrangement with a lovely description and the final results are exquisite! I will be investing in more books by Alan Dunn, having seen some great praise from other crafters. I'm new to sugarcraft but I know I will love every moment.

This is a good book but I already have one Alan Dunn books and have noticed quite a lot of repeats in this. There are some extra projects, if I had been able to scan through the book before purchasing then I most probably wouldn’t have bought it.

Love it such detailed, beautiful flowers. This is my first Alan Dunn book an honesty I don't think I need to buy another one. My only issue is that some more complicated flowers could have done with stage by stage examples of how to make them like most of them did. I think that the book needs close-ups. Otherwise very pleased.

Assolutamente vale più di quanto pagato. È molto bello soltanto per sfogliare, tante informazioni. Libro è grande, tantissimi fiori diversi..Sono felice di averlo!!!

wonderful book - enjoyed using it

This is my second Alan Dunn flower book, and I have enjoyed it every bit as much as the first. I use his guides for making polymer clay flowers, though - not sugar paste. I can't imagine using wire for cake flowers as he does; with stems and stamens not edible, why bother to make the flowers from sugar? That aside, the color grading and textures are an inspiration!

Ich besitze bereits das Buch Tropical & Exotic flowers von Alan Dunn, dass mich sehr beeindruckt hat. Dieses Buch ist noch umfangreicher, enthält aber leider fast alle Blumen aus dem anderen Buch. Die Texte wurden so stümperhaft übernommen, dass sogar die Seitenverweise mit aus dem anderen Buch und so logischerweise falsch übernommen wurden. Glücklicherweise enthält das Buch aber noch zahlreiche weitere Blumen, so dass der Kauf nicht völlig umsonst ist.Ein Index fehlt, das Inhaltsverzeichnis ist als ungeordnet zu bezeichnen. Zunächst werden die Blumen beschrieben, dabei werden gegen Ende des Buchs schonmal einige Arrangements eingesträut, dann kommt nochmal ein Kapitel mit Arrangements auf Kuchen. Irgendwie ungeordnet. Der Aufbau aus dem anderen Buch, erst das Arangement, dann die einzelnen Blumen, gefällt mir viel besser.Die Blumen sind - wie schon im anderen Buch - unglaublich schön. Die Anleitungen dazu sind sinnvoll bebildert und gut beschrieben, man sollte aber gute Englischkenntnisse mitbringen und sich ein bisschen mit der Materie auskennen.Wirklich schade, wunderschöne Blumen, gute Anleitungen aber einfach ein schlampiger Druck und Aufbau des Buchs. Ich würde es wohl eher nicht wieder kaufen, werde es aber auch nicht zurück geben.
