Attractive mini waterfall for a birdbath
Your browser does not support HTML5 video. When first setting up the fountain, I was surprised with how vigorously the water was pumped. It was so fast and loud that water splashed out of the shallow birdbath and I thought birds would not like the very fast movement. I finally noted the light print on an instruction diagram showing the “flow control.” I turned it as far as possible and the flow is reduced. I would prefer even less water volume, a nice trickle, but it is better. I am using a deeper water basin since I live in an arid climate with lots of evaporation and frequent high winds. Since it has been in place only two days I haven’t had birds investigate yet or experienced any maintenance issues. I’ll add more in a month or two.

Pump is noisy, but otherwise very well designed
This item is well designed. I ordered it for a small diy indoor water garden, and rather than buying tubing and trying to make a tiny waterfall myself this time, (Speaking from experience: It's a pain) I wanted something to ready-to-use. It does function perfectly, because there is a small section of tubing which connects directly to the pump and carries the water out the hole near the top of the "rock" structure. The result looks and sounds very natural, just what I wanted.HOWEVER, the quality of the included pump needs to be addressed...This came with a 120 gph pump which was VERY noisy. Even after all the air in the intake had cleared and it was running for a full day, the motor was just REALLY loud. Almost louder than the water. And honestly, 120 gph is total overkill for a less than 6" rise. If you are using it as intended, in a birdbath outdoors, the motor sound might not bother you. And I'm sure it won't scare the birds. But as I am using this indoors, in a frequented living space, it was worth replacing the pump with one of these $12, 80 gph ones which I bought two years ago (Runs daily and still works.) It's very inexpensive and runs MUCH quieter:https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B078XQ3FCL/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1For an extra $12 this solved the problem for me, but I do wish that the company had included a quieter pump with the "waterfall" since the pump is obviously included in the price of the item. Maybe they were trying to use up some old ones, or didn't think it was an issue, since it's sold as an "outdoor" item. Anyway, just wanted to share my experience since I saw others having the same problem.

Perfect for attracting birds.
Birds love this thing!!! It’s like. Magnetic, I bought one and had to buy another because the birds were fighting over the bird bath with the waterfall and not touching the other one.

Overall a good purchase
I put this in a large reptile water dish and my bearded dragon enjoys the moving water a lot. She never used to soak. Now she soaks and climbs all over this thing. It is sort of a pain to keep clean since reptiles like to poop in their water. But it doesn’t suck up the poop so A++ design even though I’m using it for a different purpose. It looks realistic like slate. Feels sturdy. Is fairly heavy (ie. No wind will knock it over and most medium wild animals won’t either)

Keep it clean
I like the waterfall, but I have to clean it frequently. Mine is near several bird feeders and I get a lot of seed/sunflower husks in the birdbath. I am also visited by a raccoon who washes in the bath. I find the foam filter that is supplied to be inadequate. Instead I wrap the pump with cheese cloth to keep the seeds from lodging in the vents in the pump. The squirrels also enjoy the waterfall. I am on my third waterfall. The first two succumbed because I left the pump running outside of the birdbath and the pump failed because it overheated. My fault not the pump's fault.

Initial Review: UPDATE
I purchased this same fountain from another local store back in 04 and it worked all these years until finally, the motor gave out a couple of months ago...probably because I forgot to fill the bird bath. I have it sitting in my stone bird bath on my deck- used more for ambiance than as a bird bath even though the birds do love it. My bird bath is shallow and at most, maybe 1.5 inches of water and the fountain works well on the lower to mid range speed. If I put the fountain on high speed, the water splashes out and gets too low, too quickly. I don't know if the motor will last as long as the other one since nothing made today outlasts its predecessors. But, if you're looking for a sturdy fountain with nice sound, this is definitely a worthwhile purchase.REVIEW UPDATE: 26 July 2013I began using this rock waterfall and noticed that the pump was getting all clogged up with black flakes that were apparently pieces of paint coming off the waterfall. Why in the world would they paint plastic resin that sits in water all the time? The problem was not only on the inside of the waterfall but on the outside as well. I am using the pump from this waterfall in my older model that is a light gray color without any paint. I would not buy this again. Obviously they have changed the design/manfacturer and are making a less quality product now. I wish that I had just replaced the pump. Also, the newer model is larger inside than the older model and so it makes more motor noise than the older model. I think they did this to make it easier to fit the pump inside but they compromised the quiet nature of it and they also changed the fittings so that there are both female and male ends needed on the tubing.ANOTHER UPDATE: 5/16/20:I've been using this pump and waterfall for 6 years. I scrubbed the black paint off the rock - very easy to do with a steel wool or brush. I also purchased a deeper dish that allows for more water which lowers the noise level. Every so often the motor begins to make a sound but I just jiggle it and it stops.I would still recommend purchasing it. When I wrote my negative comments, they were mostly a reaction caused by comparing this to my older model. I don't like most changes but i've learned to adapt and I've been pleased with this fountain. I just started mine up today and it works fine. I had to take a small toothpick to get the wheel to turn but it started up. Every so often the wheel inside the motor might freeze. Just take a small stick, toothpick or other object and just push it to get it started.

Lovely... for 2 weeks
It took quite a while to get to me, but I loved it from the start. Took a few days for the birds to get over their (quite comical) surprise at seeing moving water in the bath. Silent motor, fitted perfectly with concrete bath and (real) granit rock I had put in.However, today, 2 weeks after it was installed, it stopped working. I tried unplugging, plugging. I washed thoroughly the device, put it in a container with water to test it, plugged it... I could feel a vibration...so the motor hadn't burnt out. I was ready to write a sad review when I read a review from someone else who had had a similar model for 6 years. He wrote that sometimes the motor would seize up but all you needed to do was help the wheel back in motion with the use of a tooth pick. Well, the tooth pick didnt work, but a chopstick did... The pump was working again. So, OK, perhaps a 3 stars then, if I have to do that every 2 weeks... I put the pump back in the bath, turn it on - hurray! Works like a charm.I get back inside to get my phone so I can take a picture/video of my lil fountain - because I hadn't taken any yet - to add to my 3 star review.... But by the time I got back out, the pump had seized again. I felt defeated. I really liked that lil fountain. I'm debating whether I should ask for a replacement or a refund...

Very Nice Feature for a Bird Bath
Pretty good product. Appears to be of good quality. Works nice in my bird bath. Only downside is the filter that comes with this. No clear instructions on how to insert the filter or whether it should be cut into smaller pieces to fit inside the pump. Used pebbles in my bird bath around the waterfall to filter debris that gets in the water. Looks natural and birds are attracted to the bubbling water. Worth the money.

Perfect
It is the perfect size for a small backyard . The birds at long last have found it and not only drinking from it but I caught a couple bathing. Keep water levels fairly high so it bubbles more from the top and buy a timer and you can't go wrong.
