Matthew Fox explores the concept of creativity stating that creativity may be the best thing our species has going for it and it
Famed theologian, albeit with a controversial history, Matthew Fox explores the concept of creativity stating that creativity may be the best thing our species has going for it and it may also be the most dangerous, an all encompassing statement inviting both a sense of urgency as well as a need to find out why such a strong introduction. Fox often writes as if he were speaking directly to the reader using examples from his own experience and perspective offset by research and evidence by profound authors spanning centuries and historic events. He emphasizes the need to be direct as we don't have time to waste. The content of Creativity: Where the Divine and the Human Meet is a compilation and extension of two lectures given by Matthew Fox discussing the deep connection between creativity and divinity; he makes a compelling argument as evidenced by the status of our current society and by revealing that our true nature is indeed creativity. Fox goes on to discuss the sources of creativity and the potential for magnificence when we choose to co-create with the ultimate Creator, regardless of the title chosen. Fox also connects early Christian scripture, Greek mythology and the Cosmic Christ, in fact, he spans the ages to support his supposition. Fox works diligently to be inclusive of all religions and acknowledges the Sacred Feminine in his dialogue, a refreshing approach to a discussion that has the potential to be contentious. This book is a must read for everyone looking to engage in this fascinating topic and will support one's quest to strengthen spirituality through creativity and to enhance creativity through the support of the Creator.

"So Much More than I Expected"
Some years ago I read a statement in a book by Elizabeth O'Connor which said something like: "The task of the Christian is to find where God is at work in the world and join God there." As I read "Creativity: Where the Divine and Human Meet," I was reminded of O'Connor's words. Matthew Fox tells us that we are to be "co-creators with God. To undergird his argument, he enlists such apologists of the faith as Julian of Norwich, Hildegard of Bingen, Mechtild of Magdeburg, Thomas Aquinas, Meister Eckhart, and Thomas Merton. While this book will have special meaning for painters, sculptors, and artists in other media, Fox tells us that EVERYONE has gifts and graces given to us by God. He links CREATIVITY with all of life including worship, praise, education, solitude, personal relationships, and the universe itself. Since we have all been gifted by God, the Divine Gift-Giver, we are called to "leave behind a gift" as well. The book contained so much more than I anticipated, and it challenged me to expand my horizons. One example and I'm done. All through the Book of Psalms, there is the admonition/command/whatever you want to call it to "Praise God." When I read that admonition, I think about singing, participating in public worship, etc. Now I have added that "Praising God" also includes exercising our creativity for the good of the world. Look at just a sample of this book, and I believe you will be inspired to read the entire volume.

Thought provoking volume
I'm grateful that Fox was encouraged to expand and publish this material that was first presented as a sermon. Fox encourages us to see God's on-going creation in every day experiences, and to unleash our own creative spirit as a means of connection and co-creation with God.His writing is very readable, and gives me much to meditate and ponder.

creativity and creation
What a great concept to think about co-creating with God. I love how Matthew Fox makes spirituality an artistic adventure for all of us. His books help to keep spirituality active and loving—something one participates in everyday instead of just at church on Sundays or in sitting meditation.

Creativity calls us all
Creativity has always been my passion. Here it is explored in exciting ways. I have long said that being made in the image of our Creator, our very nature is creative. I think this book is essential reading. I loved it!!!

About the human nature
This book is very interesting, it shows how we could have a better world. Instead of sticking to our problems we should see every day as a new chance. It says that we are more than a greedy species, we should share our lives, wealth and humor with others.
