Q: Can I use this at home with a puppy while their morr solid crate is being shipped? I intend to also use this in the car when traveling alone.

Possibly, but only short term. The item is not exactly spacious. I suppose a lot depends on the size/breed of pup.

Q: will the medium size fit my 2 small dogs, approximately 5-6 kg each dog.

It will only fit one. It's quite snug.

Q: How sturdy is the base? My dog has a back issue so needs a very firm base for lifting him in and out of the car, and up / down stairs. Thanks!

The base is flimsy, not solid. But I lined the base with 2 layers of cardboard. Feels pretty solid now, very pleased with it

Q: Is there a way to secure this in a car?

Not really.. I push the front seat up against the crate which holds it in place
