You will need to supply your own wire. It uses telephone type cable which should be readily available from a builder's merchant. I did not need to get cable as the old one was already in situ.

i have a four wire entry system. I have tried different configurations of wiring to my 5 wire bell 801, but it's still not working. Help...

Sorry, not sure. I managed to find instruction manuals for my old entry phone and for the 801 online. Took a while to work it out but seems to work fine.

Trying to replace my old door answer phone which has 5 colour wires and no battery so assume to be on transformer

Yep this product has a 5 wire connection as I recall and low voltage power is provided through these wires (from the entryphone panel)
