San Francisco Noir: Photographs by Fred Lyon

Beautiful work!!
Amazing work from Fred Lyon, such a great insight on how the city use to look/feel. Definitely recommend if you’re a fan of photography or if you are curious on how SF looked back in the day

Good, but I expected better
This was somewhat disappointing - I would rate this as maybe 2.5 stars. I love Fred Lyon's photography, but I would venture that if you were only to get one of his works, his "San Francisco: Portrait of a City" is better. It gives a much better feeling of San Francisco. Many of the photos in "Noir" seem like they could have been taken anywhere, nothing "SF" about them. Some are experimental, I suppose interesting from an "art" perspective, but generally somewhat lacking. The book itself is beautiful, and the cover certainly suggests a real "noir" feel, but it didn't deliver on that promise. Many of the photos have no text/description. It's a decent addition to your collection if you already have other SF books, especially Lyon's above mentioned "Portrait", but it wouldn't be my first choice.

Every photographer should own this
Fred kills it with this book. His photos have excellent composition, exposure, subjects, and feel. Photographers today with what seems like unlimited digital space can’t take photos this grand. If you’re into shooting film this book is 100% inspiring of what can be done. Then again, we all don’t live in a city as vibrant as SF

Love this book a lot
The printer quality is really good and the Photographer is amazing, top of the line. I would prefer a bigger size book but is not small at all. I'm looking for other great hardcover books of Fred Lyon.

Gorgeous photography book
If you love black and white photos, and if you love San Francisco, you will love this book. There is an exhibit that lasts until December 30, 2017 at the Leica Art Gallery. Seeing the photos in the book, and in the gallery was a fantastic experience.

Wonderful photos!
The photos in this book are truly "art" and they're very evocative of a certain era. They're one of the loveliest examples of b&w photography I've ever seen and the book is a real feast.

A wonderful collection of San Francisco photographs
This is a tremendous collection of the author’s photography. It captures San Francisco before the time of massive downtown development, and when each evening brought the dense fog to the City. The use of B&W is with just fantastic skill.

Four Stars
Beatiful work. Some photos are displayed in two pages, and then they are divided on half.

Beautiful book
This book is everything I expected it to be with stunning photography and beautifully bound. Both Jazzy and Noir it's just as gorgeous as San Francisco itself!

Quality
Most disapointed the wonderful photography is destroyed by the dreadful quality of the paper used to print this book.
