Q: Is the carry strap inside the mat? It's a present so don't want to open it.

My yoga mat arrived in clear packaging and the black carry strap was already looped over and attached to the mat on the outside. If you can’t see the strap I guess it could be stuffed inside the mat, but mine was attached to the outside.

Q: Does this stop your hands and feet slipping?

Like all yoga mats, yes, to some extent. However, if you are really working up a sweat, say in Bikram,, best to wear little grippy socks and gloves ( I just use my cycling gloves for saftey!)
