Dire Straits: Alchemy Live [DVD] [2010]

Best live concert in my life time, fantastic and delivered in good time.

One of the biggest regrets I have is having missed the original Alchemy concert so this is the next best thing. I had the VHS but this is far far better for sound. No way am I the sort of geek - sorry, expert :-) that understands aspect ratios or sound qualities, I just know this is fantastic for any true fan who wasn't there or for anyone who has discovered MK and DS in more recent years (and there are plenty attending his concerts this year who were not born then!). Listened to at concert volume on my brother's amazing TV/blue-ray/ stereo surround set-up, it felt almost as good as being there and the quality of the sound was such that I picked up nuances in the lyrics that I had never got from the CDs. The pathos in the way that Mark tackles Romeo and Juliet is stunning, although I have to say he did it just as well on this year's tour all these years later! And it is the best version of Sultans I have ever heard.

DVD arrived as described. Sound quality in DTS 5.1 excellent. Video quality not so good,but none the less helped create an atmosphere to watch and listen to Dire Straits at their best.

Finally we can get this show on dvd. Certainly with improved video and sound quality over 80s' vhs and laser discs. The bonus are great. They are worth the money with songs played by the original line-up, I mean including David Knopfler. If you can, buy it. You won't regret. Finalmente podemos tener este show en dvd. Ciertamente con calidad de audio y video mejorada sobre los vhs y discos láser de los 80. Los extras son fantásticos. Ellos sólos valen el gasto, con canciones ejecutadas por la formación original, quiero decir, incluyendo a David Knopfler. Si puede, cómprelo. No se va a arrepentir.

No problems; perhaps this is a reject from a packaging perspective, but not a problem as such.

I always read the Amazon reviews on any product that I am thinking of buying, and this was no exception. There are a number of technical reviews here and I must admit some of them almost put me off. I decided to go ahead and buy a copy and I am glad that I did! The lyrics, infectious music and sheer quality of the performance are just brilliant, 'Telegraph Road' is worth the cost of the DVD on its own. Mark Knopfler is an absolute master with guitar and composition of songs, there is always so much going on with every track. I have since purchased 'On The Night' - another fabulous insight into Dire Straits live performances - there is so much more than on the original CD's. This performance may be over 30 years old but will very rarely be bettered. All I need to add is that a number of my friends have, after watching these DVDs, gone out and added them to their own collection.

Love Dire Straits, bought as a father's day present for my excellent dad, he loves it, reminds him of when he was younger and seeing Dire Straits live, perfect gift for him.

While the DVD arrived in a timely manner, the fact that it had no annoying cellophane wrapping should perhaps have alerted me earlier. When I eventually got round to playing it on my DVD player, it would not work. A message about "not PAL" or something came up, but no picture or sound at all. I checked the box, and it said that it was good for regions zero, which means worldwide. The fact that the box was unsealed might suggest that the DVD inside has been substituted, but I have no way of knowing or proving that. Because I took so long to get round to finding this out, I had lost the information about the original supplier, so put this down to (bad) experience.

Es una maravilla imprescindible para todos los fans de Dire Straits. Se ve muy bien, evidentemente no como el HD de hoy en día pero está muy bien, por otro lado esa deficiencia le da un aire "retro" encantador, tiene 31 años. En el aspecto sonoro es una pasada, con una buena tele con buenos altavoces se escucha muy bien. Compra muy recomendable a un precio ridículo.

Arrivato in meno di 24 ore, in perfette condizioni. Ottima qualità del suono, coinvolgente e pieno. Si gusta la sensazione live. La qualità delle immagini è bassa, ma questo dipende dalle riprese fatte. La band si trova in uno stato di grazia, tecnicamente perfetti e il missaggio veramente buono.

A fabulous re-issue of a fabulous live performance. The concert was great and the sound superb. Fortunately, no attempt was made to "improve" this by re-editing. A must have for any Dire Straits fan.

Brothers in Arms発表直前の本ライブと10年後のライブ On The Night、CDでも十分良かったけれど、映像だとやはり迫力が違う。特にAlchemyは2010年リマスター版のせいか、画質・音質共にOn The Nightより良く思える。曲のダブリは2枚で3曲のみ…Dire Straitsのライブは2枚で十二分。
